Pretty lame, scored a 690 overall with a Q44 and V41. Why is that lame you ask? Because it's the identical score breakdown I got on my first GMAT Prep test without any studying. After 6 weeks of studying, reading all the
Mgmat quant books, doing all the gmatclub diagnostic math problems, 3
Mgmat CATs, and scoring a 47 quant on my 2nd Gmat Prep CAT, doing 200 or so OG and Kaplan problems, I did no better than when I started. I certainly learned a lot during my study practice, but nothing translated into a better score.
So what happened? Good question. Since I was consistently scoring in the low 90s percentile on verbal, I knew quant would be the make or break aspect of my score. On the actual test, I answered the first 3 questions correctly, but spent too much time doing so. I can't remember exactly when, but around question 7 or so I realized I was way behind on time, panicked, and started guessing if I hit any kind of roadblock trying to solve a question. Somewhere around problem 18 I was substantially ahead on time, so I slowed down. I kept a steady pace and finished with 30 sec left or so. The thing is, the final 7 or so problems were super easy. I mean that some of them I solved in 30 seconds with zero doubt in my mind I found the correct answer. Of course the problems being easy meant that the CAT thought I was a moron so it wouldn't show me the moderate difficulty problems that might actually improve my score.
Oh, overall I found the question to be very similar to the Gmat Prep software, as well as the free Knewton CAT test (but don't trust their score).
Mgmat CAT quant problems have no relationship to what's actually on the test, and their scoring algorithm is most likely more sensitive about adjusting your score than the real deal.
In the end, I was beaten by the CAT and will be retaking the test in 30 days.
