Thanks for the debrief and congrats on the higher score. Particularly your verbal score is impressive.

Just a detail, I'm somewhat surprised how your score stacks up. Are you sure you got Q48 and V47? From what I've seen from other debriefs this split should give you an overall score of 760 (as opposed to 730). Also, I'm pretty sure that V47 is still 99 percentile.

Good luck with your applications.

oops sorry guys, I must be a tad bit dyslexic (probably why I can't get a higher math score!). I scored 44 verbal/97 percentile. Edited original post to reflect this.

The next step is to figure out what schools I have a reasonable chance of admittance.

Elevinty, pasted from my official report:
Analytical Writing Total Quantitative Verbal Test Date
12 October 2010 44 / 97% 48 / 82% 730 / 96% 4.5 / 37%
11 September 2010 41 / 92% 44 / 68% 690 / 88% 5.0 / 56%

Looks like they didn't like my AWA as much this time.

Dawgie,

Work exp is 18 months as an investment analyst and 2 years as a portfolio manager at a small advisory shop with aum slightly north of 1 billion. I work under the CIO and we do top down asset allocation and manager selection but no individual security research. I also have to pitch our process to prospective clients. I manage 1 person but I am not a vice president or anything.

You got a strong profile, I would apply to all the top schools. That's scary, maybe the GMAT scores are getting a lot more competitive these days.

I know when I took it the first time and got a 690, I had gotten the exact same score split on the GMATPrep software (44/41) but it calc'd me at 700. Maybe there are fractional points you can't see that weight the final score.

I know when I was trying to decide what split gives what score by searching these forums, I found several cases where the same score split gave 2 different score outcomes. Here is some of my data I compiled. I didn't go above 42 verbal when searching because I didn't think I'd score any higher. Actually, if you search for:
q48 v44
You'll see some people got 730 and others got 740. Kinda lame since some people got 48/42 and still scored a 730.

Quant Verb Overall
44 40 690
45 40 700
46 40 700
47 40 710
48 40 710
44 41 690
45 41 700
46 41 710
47 41 710
48 41 720
49 41 730
44 42 700
45 42 710
46 42 710
47 42 720
48 42 730
49 42 740

for me, this is quite alarming. How can a single breakdown have three different scores?
does anybody have an insight on this ?

Well look at the data I posted for a 710 score:
47 40 710
48 40 710
46 41 710
47 41 710
45 42 710
46 42 710
And that's for a high verbal, lower quant score. If you flipped it to high quant lower verbal you'd probably get another 6 breakdowns that equaled 710. I think it's caused by 2 factors: 1) the total score has to move in increments of 10 so scoring 1 more point in one of the sections might not increase your overall score and 2) for any given score and score breakdown, if you increased one section and decreased the other, you could still get the same score. For example, if I scored 48Q and 40 V I could get a 710. Now lower my quant score down to 45 but increase my verbal up to 42 and I still have a 710. It makes logical sense that this should happen.
