Hey All,
Took my first practice CAT today (MGMAT free CAT) and scored a 560! Quant was 33% and verbal 77%. Totally unexpected score to be honest. I have been studying full time, 7+ hours a day since the beginning of September. I really don't know where I've gone wrong in my studies. Read all the MGMAT books and have done all the OG and Quant Review questions (even going through OG/QR PS twice). I don't know what to do at this point.
I'm just venting, don't mean to be a downer on you guys. It's just such a surprise to me, I've always prided myself on being a decently smart guy (4.0 undergrad GPA, CFA charterholder) so I thought given the amount of work I've put in I would have scored much higher.
Well, back to the drawing board. We are all faced with adversity at some point or another in life; it's how you handle these situations that defines a man.

CFA charterholder?! nice nice I'm working on both right now (GMAT & CFA as well)
if anything, these two tests are definitely two completely different monsters. the things you learn in one more or less cannot be used to help you in the other.

Amen. They are completely different animals. I was able to go 3/3 on the CFA, which took alot of blood (not really), sweat, and tears (pretty close to). I am finding the GMAT to be a beast of an exam. Before studying for the exam my quant skills were very weak. I'm fine with basic arithmetic, which by and large is all you need for most jobs in finance. I didn't have a solid math background going into this. Despite a herculean effort, my quant is still mediocre.
I have banked big time on getting ~700 on this exam. I quit my I Banking job, took a SE Asia tour, and came back expecting to work for my 700 and get myself into a top ten school. With a sub 600 score, my career is in serious jeopardy. I will work as hard as I can to get my score to an acceptable level, but given time constraints with application deadlines I'm not sure if this is possible.
This exam is a true arbiter. Academic credentials mean nothing; I've busted my ass for this exam and still have been crushed.
