A Verbal score of 50 means that you barely got one or two questions wrong. Getting almost 6-8 questions can still give you a Quant score of 50. I think that the difference is immaterial, but it also depends to a certain extent on your academic background - like if you have a math background, the lower Q score will not matter as much as if you have, say, a literature background.

Thanks for the perspectives, everyone. I actually do have a literature background, so I'm guessing that this is a bit of a red flag for admissions. I recently took a stats class and did well, so I'm hoping that will help mitigate the impact of my low quant score.

I was in a very similar situation until I retook last week. I went from 710 (Q39 V48) in November to 770 (Q49 V47) 33 days later. I understand that conventional wisdom tells you to avoid retaking if your score is above 700, but I would consider it, if you feel that your current quant score is not representative of your capabilities.
