Ok, hi everyone! I already posted a long time ago about my first experience with the GMAT. I took it for the first time in May and got 540. I was really bummed out because just a few days earlier, I scored 650 on a GMAT PREP TEST but, 2 things I didn't consider:
1) I had already done that GMAT PREP TEST a lot of times
2) I did QUANT one day and VERBAL the next
Anyway, I was depressed and wanted to know nothing else about the GMAT for a while. I decided to take some "vacations" and without noticing, it was already November. I was already late for first rounds, and had forgotten all about GMAT fundamentals, strategies... everything! So, I started to study again. It has DIFFICULT. I had no specific plan, just started to make a lot of problems, and kept an Error Log, which I only reviewed to check out how many wrong/right problems I was getting; and let me tell you, I was making A LOT of mistakes.
I kind of started to give up again on the GMAT, until I decided to schedule an appointment for the 4th of February.
So, I made a plan, swore to stick to it and started studying beginning January. I have been studying intensely (for about 3 hrs daily) Monday through Thursday, and answering CATs on weekends.
My strategy is
1) MGMAT quick review for all 8 guides. Finishing a guide, I start making OG problems suggested by the specific guide and evaluate mistakes and why they were made.
2) GMAT PREP TESTS one every weekend, evaluating mistakes and why they were made.
I have 15 days left, and I am still at 580 or 600. I'm really starting to lose it again. I don't know if I should hire an online private tutoring service or if I should just make more problems, or check out more theory. I really have no idea what would be best to improve my score.
My target score is 650. I'm a female non native applicant and since I'm having such a hard time with the GMAT, I really think I shouldn't be focusing on impossible scores such as +700.
My last GMAT PREP SCORE was 580. Q 42 V 28, and I took it yesterday.
I realized that in Quant for example, I made 15 mistakes; from those, 10 were silly mistakes were I didn't read carefully so I didn't get the trick in the question, multiplied/divided/added/subtracted wrong, chose the wrong answer in the computer (I'm actually super embarrassed to admit I make such mistakes), etc. The other 5, I honestly couldn't answer them.
And on Verbal, I'm just so tired, that I'm not really committed to analyze every single question! I just go for "this sounds best" method. I did notice that CR is my weakness, although I'm more or less the same on the three types.
I would be SO grateful if someone is willing to help me, and would give more information so you could understand better what I'm going through.

hi pclg, first off, don't ever feel embarassed because you get a question wrong. Everyone makes mistakes. As long as you understand why you made these mistakes, you're one step ahead of others. Seeing how little time you had left, I would really focus on the math portion of the test. Math, arguably, is easier to improve than verbal. There are just so many different nuisances pertaining to a verbal problem that it makes verbal seems so much harder. Wiht a Q42 on your last GMATPrep, it tells people that you haven't mastered the fundamentals just yet. Since you have all 8 MGMAT guides, I'd go over the math sections on these books religiously. Then to carry out the strategies on your OG and GMATPrep. You can easily improve your Q42 to Q46 or Q47. Then if you still have the time, I'd go over the sentence correction since that would be the next easiest thing to do on the verbal section. Improving these 'mini' sections will most likely put you around the 650 score. Best of luck!

I'll tell you how the exam went after it's done. I heard there'll be a diagnostic test this weekend on the university I studied; I think I should go and get the feel of a "real test" just to see how I'm doing. On the other hand, I won't be able to see which problems I got wrong, so I would lose the opportunity check out and correct all wrong answers.
