Hi everyone,
Just a quick note to say that GMAT is indeed DOABLE =).
I have been preparing for 5 weeks (app. for 4-5 hours daily) and I can tell you that the difficulty level of the exam is very much overestimated in blogs and forums. I don't really understand what drives those people who write that a 700+ score is a dream - may be they wish to make their success seem more important than it really is.
MY experience is that Math is MUCH easier in the real exam than it is in the Gmat Prep, let alone
Manhattan GMAT. I can say that at least 80% of my Quant section was made of questions of the same level as in the Offical Guides. Moreover, I dare say the questions were mainly from the beginning or the middle of the sections. I had a few computation problems and some tricky DS problems, but they were no more difficult than those in the OG. So my key takeaway was that it's absolutely useless prepare ypurself using all those crazy 800+ books - they usually contain problems that are closer to rocket science than to real GMAT. It's most probable that you won't ever face permutation problems or tough Geomerty (unless you're a Math freak and strive for a 770+ result). Though I do recommend using
MGMAT guides and tests to brush up your Math in general and guarantee a 47+ score on Quant, their questions have nothing to do with the real thing in most cases.
Second, the practical test results are not always reflective of one's abilities.
For example, my GMAT Prep and
MGMAT's average results were around 660-670 with a maximum result of 700. Having read all the forums and blogs, I didn't even dream of a 750 =). So if you're able to be composed and calm during the exam, it's very likely that your real results will be higher than those in the CATs.
Good luck to all of you guys!
I am off to my vacation in Italy and then going on with TOEFL and the essays.
