Brief - M, 25, India, 4 yrs by Oct 11..
Oh well, Yeah I am one of those nuisance test takers, who are not even content with a 720... Dat was 2 yrs ago.. The academic in me was reignited 2-3 months ago, when it (no ambiguity here pls! - it refers to the academic in me) told me, buddy - u r meant for a 770..
Anyway, let me justify the reasons for retaking it:
Primary reason: My last attempt was in Oct 09 (~2 yrs ago dat wl show as 3 yrs ago by d time I join my school nd 5 yrs ago by d time i try 4 consults - my post mba goal) - convincing enuf ??
Secondary reason(s): Well, so many, first being the academic in me (u cn define dis an ego issue), other being time at my disposal leading to better prep den last time when I just prepared haphazardly nd wrote d test, 3rd being, increasing chances of getting a higher merit aid ...
However, I tried to be pragmatic and dint book a slot until I was confident of doing well.. Infact, I wanted to take the test on last wednesday, but dint get the slot

Dis is today - Aug 2011 - 720 (51,36).. I started my prep on 6th June 11..
My mock scores 4 ur refernce:
G PREP 2(09) 6th June 700 50 35
MGMAT 2 18th June 740 49 42
MGMAT 3 30th June 730 49 40
G PREP 1(09) 2nd July 730 50 38
G PREP 1(07) 20th July 770 50 44
MGMAT 1 23rd July 780 51 45
G PREP 2(07) 26th July 740 50 40
MGMAT 5 31st July 750 51 41
G PREP 1(09) 30th July 770
MGMAT 4 8th Aug 770 51 44
In the last days, I solved GMAT PREP SCs and CRs ; revised my own notes and prepared 4 AWA ..
I admit that I was not expecting a 770/780 unless Jesus would be too kind on me.. I had sincerely hoped that 750/760 will be what I'll get...
What did me in were timing issues: Picture this, 1st 3q.s took 8 mins and den i gathered momentum, so much of it dat 25th was a super tough and a long RC ..29th was a bold face. I knew i ws getting dem ryt...by this time I had 14 mins on the clock, and 12 q.s to deal with.. nd I was confident of finishing dem off, as I had done this almost on 5 of my high scoring mocks...30th-34th were smooth..35th was a short RC nd I had 7 mins to go..dis is whre i got killed... d short 1 ws a tough nut to crack.. I wasted almost 3-4 mins nd wsnt confident of d answers. finally ended up guessing last 3 q.s, infact dint even read d last 1 nd marked it blindly .. In the hindsight, I should have guessed d RC q.s and genuinely attempted last 4 q.s ..
Quant was very smooth.. I think I got dem all right .. finished d section 10 mins before d scheduled time .. nd i dint even study 4 a single day for it .. Sorry, if dat sounds like I am boasting...
Referred to the following material for verbal:
1. MGMAT SC guide and MGMAT tests
2. Power score CR guide
3. Religiously followed GC Verbal, Manhattan, and Pagalguy Verbal forums
4. Referred to sources such as GMATPILL, E-gmat (Free videos/lessons only)
5. SC grail - not much helpful though
6. RC 99 - solved around 25 passages
6. GMAT PREP docs - SC and CR
Anyway, it's done with and rusted.. I sent my scores to mix of schools including Duke, Emory, UNC.. However, Emory is my top choice and I am going in early for it ...

Your verbal experience seems similar to mine (although you scored better). I felt that the language and content of rcs and even crs was a bit more convoluted than any practice tests I had taken.
