dont know whether to congratulate you or not. :)
Anyway look on the bright side, you're done with it and you've proven you've kept up with inflation. :)

Cheers!

Dear Bearbelly:

How effective is solving RC99 for the preparation of GMAT?

gigabyte

Hello gigabyte,

Any sort of practice material is good as long as it is in the purview of GMAT.. I believe that RC 99 is an excellent material ...Best thing about RC99 is that passages are from varied topics, are classified as per the difficulty level, and each passage has only 3-4 q.s ..

I read this excellent comment by Stacy from Manhattan GMAT in which she stated how one should not solve more than 4 q.s in any passage from OG .. Reason: by the time you wl reach 5th, 6th q. ur understanding of the passage would be xcellent, giving an inflated accuracy rate

HTH !!

I am not sure how you feel but a 720 is definitely an excellent score.

Also that Q51 is very attractive. You know right that a score of Q51 is not very common?

Nevertheless, excellent job and all the best for your apps. Do keep me posted :-D :-D

One question, are the verbal questions more difficult and convulted than those in the prep documents ?

Also I expect exactly 4 RC passages. Are there any fewer or more ?

Bro i have a question.

i know u dint read for the the quant and hit a 51.. but im still concerned...

how was the standard of quant? and do u knw how it is in general these days?
i mean.. was it as easy as it is in most of the practice tests? cuz i heard from a few of my frnds who gave the test sometime back that GMAT has increased the standard of Quant to an extant that some of its q's match the CAT level... also on the forums there are some really nice and tricky questions posted. So i was just wondering on whether i shud be putting more effort to sharpen my quant skills and be prepared for solving CAT style q's or if i can save this time for verbal...

Frankly, I feel bad about a 720 as even till 60th minute in verbal I thght i had it in control ...

I dint know 51 is not very common .. :P

I would not say that the questions are more convoluted den dose in Prep..The topics tested are essentially d same any, which, way .. however, the part that plays on u is ADAPTIVE .. u answer right q.s nd u get more tough q.s ...

I still feel GMAT verbal is manageable and 40+ is achievable.. U cn xpct 4 RC passages ..

Standard of Quant was good man .. I got very varied q.s trust me .. practice tests were nothing in front of d real thing ...

However, it will be difficult to comment on what you should do unless u post ur mock scores, if any ...

Belly! Well, I don't know if you want to be congratulated, but hey, at least you kept up with score inflation :) Noticed the jump from 50->51 there.

ofc !!

My strategy was : Time left on the clock: no. of q.s

60 mins 1st 8,
45 mins 1st 17,
40 mins 1st 20 ... nd so on ...

When I reached 20th q. d clock displayed 36 mins .. so I was lagging by 4 mins, however, I was confident of covering dat up ..

bt dat last RC (35-37) killed me ... I shud hv guessed it nd genuinely attempted last 4 q.s; though, sadly 4 me d opp. happened ......

BAD BAD BAD !!! My acg mock score - 756 ... V 36 is not my reflective of my skill .. my percentile in CAT 10 VA section - 98.99 ..

Well for all I've heard that GMAT Verbal is much difficult than CAT Verbal, though quant kicks ass. So I guess you can't compare. (I might be wrong)

But I must say that if that score is killing you so much, just go ahead and retake. You don't want to fret over it for the rest of your life. What have you got to lose other than just 250$ ?

I say, both are equally tough... however, GMAT is adaptive while CAT throws all q.s at u in one go... so u cn plan better....

Oh no man .. 3 attempts r huge 4 me .. :P

I ll lose on R1 deadlines of my choice of schools esp. ISB, which is having R1 deadline on sep 15 ..

Cnt retake now..
