I feel Kaplan's scoring algorithm for the new online tests inflates scores and gives u a feeling u r all set and ready for the real test....Well... if u take a look at my mock test scores ,i have three scores above 90 percentile ...That seemed pretty comforting until I took the real test ...My lowest score in my tests was 64 percentile....roughly 32 ....If I had gotten 32 today,i guess I would have settled for that......(I expected a score of around 40 going by my kaptests, but it turned out to be a disaster).......I have used up all my resources..OG,Kaplan,Manhattan guides,GMAT prep...I really don't know how to improve my english scores(I am far from optimistic anyways)...and studying again for GMAt requires a lot of effort and sacrifice.....Could anybody tell me if I stand any chance with my current score???Time is running out and I really have to start applying for colleges even though I may retake the test......But I really cant over-rely on my next attempt as there is no guarantee again....

Hi,
I took the GMAT for the second time today and scored a pathetic 26 in verbal and a decent 50 in math.
I scored 630 in my first attempt(q47 v 30)...i would like to know whether it is sensible to retake the test again as I am not sure whether i would be able to improve my verbal score...Also,i would like to know whether colleges look at sectional scores.....In my case would some colleges consider my math score and not write me off ? Although 26 seems horrible would it be okay if I display competence in essays and other things that are essential for admission in a reasonably decent college??

The most frustrating part was that I was scoring consistently well on Kaplan's mock tests..these were my scores in my 9 kaptests

CAT 1:650-(Math-68,vaerbal 89)
CAT2:690-(Math-79,verbal 95)
CAT3:710(math 99,verbal 64)
CAT4:670(math 84,verbal 69)
CAT5:690(math 84,verbal 78)
CAT6:720(math 88,verbal 97)
CAT7:710(math 94,verbal 89)
CAT8:720(math 88,verbal 97)
CAT9:660(math 75,verbal 78)

As you can see kaplan tests are way off and induced false hopes that I would do well in the real exam as far as verbal is concerned.

For sure yo should retake and easily improve to 700 with your quant part.

Even though my score are not going great themselved. Here is my take at the situation.

I think take a small break and think about what has gone wrong.
- Verbal in Kaplan is quite tough is what i have heard all the time. Hence naturally i would have though that your score shuld be good in Kaplan

Now to score going down there could be two possibilities.
- There could be a point in fact someone mentioned that GMAT question bank (OG etc.) is the only material replicating the true nature of the test. And other question bank just makes us inclined to those question.
- May be you were tensed during the test and committed silly mistakes. Which you would not have not done if tension was not in picture.

Whatever happens keep the motivation high and good luck.
