I took the test yesterday and received 660 (q48 v33). Before the test I knew I would take it at least once again and just wanted to see where I stood. So I am to take it another few times to hit -700+.
Background: I’m a 20-year old male student from Russia and going to apply to Masters in Switzerland so I “only” need 680-700. I have never been good at school and have always been an average guy. What helps me is the belief that one can achieve everything should he or she really want it.
Preparation: I began to study GMAT in February but the real preparation began in July, when I realized that I was a lazy boy and that I had to revise every book of Manhattan set and prepare every day for at least 1,5-2 hours. At that moment my mock tests results were 520-550.
After a month of hard work I took the GMATprep and got 660 (q47 v35). One might think that I am disappointed that I have not improved my score but I knew that going from 660 to 700 is far more difficult, than going from 520 to 660.
In August I read all the verbal guides and have done everything in OGs except RC. My accuracy in SC is around 90% and in CR only 60%. In the last two months I have read almost 2000 pages of good American fiction, have read hundredths of extreme articles about Astrophysics, Stem Biology, Chemistry etc. and have read almost all issues of The Economist. It looks like Verbal part doesn’t like me and doesn’t want to come to terms with me.
I also took 15
GMATclub tests and those were really great. As many have already mentioned, these tests teach you to read the question several times to avoid silly mistakes. Getting from 46-47 to 48 is good and I have 10 more tests that, I hope, will bring me to 49.
Test day: Had a good sleep, packed Nuts bars and bananas and went to the test center. Test center was awful and I have written a petition to Pearson.
During the quant part I had a feeling that I had spoiled everything. I also haven’t seen a single question on combinatorics/probability. My pen stopped writing from time to time and that was pretty annoying as well. During the verbal part I thought I was doing great as questions were really tough. My expectations turned out to be completely wrong.
Result: The result was quite expected as a week before I got 650 in GMATprep. But the verbal part has a bit disappointed me as I had expected to get at least 35.
Plans to retake: I need 680 and I am close but I don’t know how to conquer the verbal part as I have done almost everything mentioned in this forum.
And last but not least: If you are having problems with some parts of the test and think that you will never conquer them – recall bears driving bicycles in the circus. If bears can ride bicycles, you can get the score of your dream!
