Hi everyone,
I would like first to apologize, I was on the forum mostly like an active ghost reading the different stories, reading the different materials available and helpful too. I didn’t really think that my reply won’t really help because I didn’t knew what was the Gmat experience since now.
Yesterday I pass the Gmat test in Paris, I am a non native speaker so sorry for the english mistakes I will make.
I scored 530 with Q38 and V24, I have to say that I am a bit disapointed but I am happy for having more than 500. Because few years ago I pass a similar test the Tage Mage quite similar in some parts of the Gmat but tougher for me because need to be real quick on calculation and logic (1min20sec to answer each question) and I earn a miserable score on that Test…
My goal was not to get a 700 score but more or less around 600. I have with my master degree the opportunity to apply in an MBA program of the university partners (all accredited AACSB) in one year and for half the real price.
With my actual score I can apply and obtain a position in one of the university, but there is two program that I have interest that requires a higher score on the Gmat, one require +600 score and the other one do not mention any s score but the median is around 560 and therefore to assure a position in one of these university I need to higher my gmat score.
My study plan was based on these books:
Quote:
MGMAT seriesOG 10th, 12th, Quant and Verbal supplement
Sc Aristotle guide
I did one Gmat Prep scored 560.
During one month and a half I study all the basics in maths, maths properties, inequalities, geometry without doing any of the exercise mentionned (the one refering to the OG) and I read the SC, RC and CR parts of
MGMAT program. The time spent on these was 2h at least + 2hour (every 2 nights) + average of 8 hours on weekends.
After these I began to attack the OG 10th edition because I heard that it contains more question and more difficult one than the 12th edition.
I did lot of mistake so I begin to make study my weakspot at the end of a series of question example: If I failed on that type I will read again the
MGMAT or read other content on internet about it.
Then I attack the last month I was in a state feeling that I have time but enough to do all the problems? So I began a one month hardcore study plan during one month I did all Cr question during my bus time (2hours/day) every lunch break (1h30min) to do 12th edition problems and ds solving, back at home at least 3 hours of problem solving and ds or correct the previous one and on weekends 16 hours.
I noted each time where I was wrong and after one week I did again all the wrong I got to do them again and check if I was making same mistake and put them away to keep a list of problem I didn’t know to do them at all.
I decided to put away CR problems (I did all the CR from the Verbal and the 12th edition I did most of them right but on the last ones get lot bad ones) I did 20 RC from the 12th and get almost everything right so I say to myself it will depends on what I will get on the test for these two parts (and didn’t do the 10th ed CR).
I knew that SC was my monster … so I bought the aristotle guide for supplement help because after reading the SC guide from Manhattan it was tough to understand all the things and grammar is not my cup of tea… So after reading them twice I began doing the SC and I got a return of 4/10 right on almost all series of ten I did and I do think that luck is in it…
The last week I push so hard that even I got headach a little nap and back in the game.
I spend the weekend trying again to solve the problem I do not know well and that’s it. A bit of stress the night before but in the morning I was ready.
Sit on my desk ready to do the job, first question on the maths was not tough but after these one I don’t know for some I really had to guess to make an answer getting my calculation not equal to what the answer was etc.. but I kept calm and answer to all questions.
There were mainly inequalities problems, three or four problems concerning RTD charts, a little about geometry, one on probability and one combinatorics as far as I remember.
During the break I was a bit sad because I did not score well and I knew it so I was ok we will catch up on verbal parts.
I got really hard text on Reading comprehension mostly scientific and with terms that I never read before. During the this part I was estimating and anxious about the score that will be shown at the end. Some of the CR I did’nt know well but for sure I did an ENORMOUS mistake to underestimate the SC parts, because lots of question was about it and answer to them was mainly on my ears and based on my english level so…
At final 530.
I am disapointed mainly because I thought that on verbal I will do better but not! So I am sure that I can make a better score.
That’s why I am going to take my chance again and improve my score on both parts and mainly in verbal.
After reading the phenic topic style (rebirth of people with score around 500 getting up to 700), and to pick idea of their program to make my own for a two month study program the first one I will spend less times but the second month I will have 24/24 availibility.
I plan:
- buy the Powerscore CR bible
- Subcribe on grockit (look interesting for txt topics)
- Really get into SC corrections
- Continue to work on quant problems and be more involved with inequalities, math properties and probability (and get right combinatorics).
If you have any advice for my next two months be sure I will take them into account and I will surely be more active on this forum.
