Hi dentobizz!

Yes, the GMATPrep algorithm is less generous and more inline with the real GMAT's.

On other mock tests, I have found the Kaplan, Veritas, Knewton, PlatinumGMAT mock tests to be good practice.

Also, you should re-install GMATPrep and do the GMATPrep tests again at least once, maybe twice.

On verbal practice, have you gone through the Brutal SC and Brutal CR documents on GMATClub? Pls go through the exhaustive SC, CR and RC threads on GMATClub and also download good Verbal documents viz documents by whiplash, Gayathri's guide on SC, Spidey's SC guide etc available at: download.php

You could also enroll for the actual e-GMAT course rather than just attend the free lessons - the course is relatively cheap and could work for you.

All the best!

Indeed, efficiency and timing is important. This article onGMAT strategies with timing and psychology may be helpful for you:

An yes, the GMAT Verbal is very important.
One of our students finished the exam with 25 minutes left. Read about his experience.

Of the GMAT verbal sections, SC is the easiest to improve and RC is probably the section that will take the longest time to improve. These RC videos may help.

Some people recommend reading the NY Times. While that may be beneficial in the long run, it's unlikely that reading NYTimes will actually help boost your score in a few weeks. Focus on keywords in the passage so you know when you should really pay attention and when you can "skim" parts of a paragraph. This is almost an art rather than a science and takes time to develop.

The most cost effective way is to focus on the highest quality prep materials from the GMAT makers themselves:
1) GMAT Prep software
2) Official Guide 11th or 12th edition is fine

If you want more practice, you can use OG Verbal review and Quant review books

If you don't like learning from a book, GMATPill offers online video courses that have helped lots of people.

Remember, your time is limited so study smart, not hard.

Hope that helps! Focus. Focus. Focus.
