Congrats on the 700+ score. Mind telling us about how helpful the MGAMT advanced quant book was useful in your preparation.

BTW point noted about the names, it is an issue indeed at times with the testing centres.

MGMAT Advanced Quant was a great book but not sure how much it helped in my final GMAT in terms of "syllabus". But the book has practice sets at the end with continous tougher questions which will help you with the final exam. Because the Mock tests seem to lack tough problems and lose accurancy above Q49 or Q51.

So if you are good in Quant, your secont half of actual GMAT Quant will be different from mock. I got Q51 in 5 out of 6 MGMAT tests with 5 - 7 mins left after every exam. In my actual test, I was pressed against time and ended up with Q50. So, practicing the MGMAT Advanced quant will help you with this second half.

Just as additional info my tough GMAT questions were tough in terms of "interpreting" rather than solving.

Awesome score! Congrats!

What do you think of the MGMAT Adv Quant book? Does it go beyond what is tested on the GMAT? Or is it a good book for people looking to score high on quant?

I wasnt the best at verbal. But when solving OG, i kept a track of how many I got right. In CR I got 80% right, in TC 75% and in SC 66%. This told me I had tremendous scope to improve in SC but I didnt have much time. So, I proceeded to mock tests.

In my exam for the first 15- 20 questions, i took my time and concentrated on every question. and as the exam proceeded I started concentrating less in SC questions (Because given my conentration,I had 34% chance of gettin it wrong).

Congrats on your score !

One question - is it necessary to go through the MGMAT advanced quant guide ? Many ppl say it's simply too difficult and unnecessary

That depends on how much you are scoring in yout CATs. I was scoring Q49 without it.To me, the problem sets at the end of the book helped more than the lessons.

As I said, if you are getting Q49-51 in mock tests, get this book and solve one problem set everyday. GMAT stress and toughness varies significantly from mock tests after you cross a certain level of toughness and you must get used to it. Also, the book has good POE and guessing strategies.

All the best !
