11th Jan 2005 - GMAT - 670 (49Q, 32V)
I would first like to thank everybody for helping me out:
GMAT Club:- Wonderful site
My Wife:- Supported me a lot
My Parents:- Prayed for me
My Computer:-
I have read many stories in this form, some were about victory and some were about loss, but each one was very helpful in my GMAT preparation.

There was only one question which used to pop up after finishing these stories, what would me my story?
Well, this question used to bother me a lot; I used to have sleepless nights hoping to get good score. I always knew that it would be difficult crossing 700, but not impossible, given that I started preparing just one month before my GMAT. I did write GMAT in a hurry, as the last date for ISB (Indian School of Business) was 15th Jan.
Before I started my preparation, I knew that to get a super score in just one month would be miracle. Then I found this wonderful site

, where I learnt a lot, got a hope that it is possible to get a good score.
All the members used to suggest only one thing: do your OG completely.

Given the short duration and full time work, 12 hours including commuting time, I calculated that it would be very difficult to complete everything. So, I worked on my strengths and weaknesses and came to a conclusion that I have to focus on SC and RC. So, I decided to finish all the SC and RC questions from OG.
I had less time and more to do, so I had to set priorities and carefully plan my preparations. I spent 2 hours daily on OG and 2 hours browsing GMAT Club. I used to enjoy reading success stories very much, first few days I read only these. Later, one day I had trouble with score estimator and I posted my first message indicating a problem. Till then I was hesitant to post any message.
That gave me confidence

and I started engaging in discussions regularly. I would advice every one to do so as this is the best way to test your learning. I used to enjoy a lot by taking part in the discussions, and I would continue doing so. This forum was like second home for me.
I finished all the SC questions from OG, but left doing RC questions, as I did not think I would ever do well in RC. I totally lost hopes on RC and though that I would skip them during the exam because even after consuming a lot of time most of them went wrong.

I was improving a lot in SC, so focused a lot on that.
I am good at math and thought that I would easily get 100%, moreover every one in the forum said that OG quant was substandard. So I never really bothered to do any question from OG. But, I think I did a lot of silly mistakes in the exam, which has brought my score down. If I had time, I would have worked out few examples from Kaplan, which every one tells is of the same standard as actual GMAT.
Over all my source of preparation were GMAT Club and OG.
Problem Solving: GMAT Club and all tests.
Data Sufficiency: GMAT Club and all tests.
SC: GMAT Club, OG and all tests.
CR: GMAT Club, OG to some extent and all tests.
RC: OG only to some extent.
I calculated the time I had, 124 hour, and prepared accordingly.
22 weekdays, 4 hours daily = 88 hours
4 weekends, 12 hours = 8 * 12 = 96 hours
Therefore, 184 hours.
I learnt from this site that managing time was very important so, I planned to do as many tests as possible.
I planned to write 10 tests
Therefore, 10 * 6 (3 1/2 for test and 1 ½ for review) 60 hours.
I dedicated 50% of this time on SC, 30% on RC and 20% on CR.
Preparation Test Results:
My scores, till 26th Dec 2004:
PP1 630 (50M, 25V) – before starting my preparation.
KP Diag 640 (45M, 32V) – before starting my preparation.
KP1 590 (50M, 29V) – After 1 week of preparation.
PR3 710 (46M, 41V) – After 2 weeks of preparation (though I did only 2 mistakes in Quant)
KP2 630 (50M, 32V) – After 2 weeks of preparation.
KP3 550 (39M, 25V) – After 3 weeks of preparation.
PR4 700 (46M, 41V) – After 3 weeks of preparation – all RC’s were repeated, I was frustrated.
PP1 repeated 720 (51M, 35V) – After 3 ½ weeks of preparation
KP4 610 (M48, V30) – 3 days before exam.
PP2 740 (50M, 40V) – 2 days before exam. I already knew answers to RC questions.
GMAT actual 670 (49M, 32V) – on the exam day
Believe me, 670 is just a score, which for some could be very good and for some just average, and I need this to get into a business school nothing more. I understand that a good GMAT score is very very important for getting into a reputed college but what is also important is the learning experience.
I think by far this is the best exam that I have written. GMAT not only tests a person for managerial aptitude but also tries to inculcate managerial thinking. My thought process has improved after one month of preparation. I am writing this not to boast off myself or to cover for my average score, but to share my experience.
I don’t know if this is enough for getting into ISB, but I am working hard to get admission.
Writing admission essays was one of the toughest jobs. I again had very less time for this as I had decided to write them after my exam.
I worked 9 + 25 hours continuously, taking breaks only for absolute necessary nature calls, to write just 6 essays.
I couldn’t believe just six essays and 34 hours!!!!!
If some one has come this far reading my experience, then guess my essays would be interesting…
I had very less time and I had to utilize it well, so I worked continuously, carefully writing my essay and checking it again and again. On 15th morning, last day of submitting application, after consecutive 2 nights without sleeping I submitted my application.
I thought I would come back and share my GMAT experience immediately, but didn’t find time, as I had to finish those essays.
Is 670 a good enough score for ISB? I have 2 ½ years of experience in IT field…
If some one can help me, I would be glad.
