A little background first - I attempted the GMAT right out of school in 2006 because I knew I would need it for a MBA later in life. I got a 710 (Q49 V37) and thought it was good enough and will worry about it later. I started working in 2006 and never got a chance to think about a MBA until now but since the previous score is invalid I decided to retake the GMAT.
My 1st attempt this year was on April 6th 2013 and I scored a 680 (Q49 V33). I was disappointed and I registered for a 2nd attempt.
I concentrated on Verbal for about 45 days between the 2 attempts. I took 2 Mock CATs close to the 2nd attempt and I scored 750 and 740 in those. But I knew it was skewed as I had taken GMAT Prep earlier. In general I was happy with my preparation.
On exam day, essay went well but I fell short on time in IR and had to guess the last 3 questions. I completed Quant on time but was knocked over by a couple of questions (reflects on my 1 point drop from previous attempt). Verbal started off very well, somewhere between question 10 and 15, I lost track of time and was lagging behind by about 6 minutes. It started to grow on me and by the time I reached 25th question, I knew i was in bad shape wrt to time. So i skipped a long passage and guessed 3-4 questions in a row (horrible thing to do in general but for me personally I thought its a good option). I caught up on time and did ok for the rest of the section. In general I did not have a good feeling. I was fearing I did worse than earlier attempt. But in the end I saw 690 (Q48 V36) and was happy considering the way I felt at the end of the Verbal section.
My scores leading up to the 2 tests were:
MGMAT 2: 620 (Q47 V29) February 24th
GMATPrep 1: 650 (Q49 V30) March 8th
MGMAT 3: 650 (Q44 V35) March 23rd
MGMAT 4: 660 (Q45 V35) March 25th
GMATPrep 2: 690 (Q49 V34) March 27th
MGMAT 5: 670 (Q45 V36) March 30th
MGMAT 6: 680 (Q48 V35) April 4th

REAL GMAT1: 680 (Q49 V33) April 6th

GMAT Prep 1: 750 (Q50 V40) May 20th
GMAT Prep 2: 740 (Q50 V39) May 23rd

I have decided to concentrate on the remaining parts of the application process rather than give another shot. I have 8 years of work exp. (with growth and good numbers) and tons of really good ECs. I will spend the rest of my time on producing a stellar application to the 7 schools that I have picked for Full-Time MBA!! Good luck to everyone and reach out to me if you have any questions.
