jpv, that is nonetheless a very good score. Congratulations :drinking . It took me 2 times to reach only 650 and the third attempt was the charm. I believe it is CR and RC which brought you down because your SC was not that bad at all. Good to know at least that you will stay here at least for another little while

Thanks guys for the encouraging words..

I don’t remember exactly what was happening after when I was on qus no. 20 in quant. Twice I felt like I am going to faint but still I was just clicking through. Perhaps I was too nervous. The night b4 I don’t know whether I slept or not. Something crap was continuously going on in my mind.

But I should take the full blame. I knew that I can't handle slightly convoluted business passages, yet I took the chance to appear in the exam. I guess that was a very bad decision. I got 2 passages (8 questions) in first 10; both were business passages (my weakest link) and fairly convoluted. I was unable to paraphrase and on top of that my mind was continuously refusing to cooperate.

I don’t know how I got 51 in quant perhaps because of GC challenges. In GC challenges each and every question challenges you to find the trick. In actual test only 4-5 question were of this (GC Challenges') standard and I think if you are able to identify and surpass those questions, u are a 50-51 candidate.

At times, I have troubled a lot of ppl. I personally want to thank them for taking out their precious time and answering my questions irrespective of whether those questions were silly or legitimate. I am going to keep some part of thanks because I will still be bothering them (at least till my next attempt).

hi jpv,
you definitely deserve a better score...
was your verbal score worse than what you usually scored in practice tests? (especially PowerPrep)

35 was my minimum score in any practise test. My verbal score used to be between 35 and 43. PP2 (Jan - 35) PP1 (March - 38). Both b4 OG. But anyway that does not matter now. Ultimately I failed.

Based on that, I would suggest you to reschedule your exam immediately in June maybe? Perhaps this was just a bad day.

Decent score Jpv - but I agree with Paul, reschedule your exam sooner than later. I made the mistake to prolonging it too much in the past and have burnt my fingers - My advice would be to reschedule the exam within 1month max one and half month!

Oh, jpv, it is unfair with you you. 51 in qt is a gr8 score but such a Verbal score is a sucide. verbal () pulled you down.

I also think that you should take it immidiately if possible within next few days (probably ETS doesnot allow to retake the test within 7 days of last test date) because you have now a kind of strong confidence than the one you had immidiately before or during the test. therefore do not let the confidence lost.

all the best ..............................

Its my bad luck  that I cant schedule the test in june because I have to fly back to my Native to attend a ceremony, which was delayed only because of me/my exam. Anyway, I will be rescheduling my exam sometime in July/August. But I will be in touch with my studies whatever may be the situation.
Paul, given that now I know (I knew it earlier also.. but..) where exactly GMAT can take me, what should be my game-plan.

JPV, it appears to me based on what you've described that you had a case of nerves. I know its easy for me to say but dont think about the end result. Just think only about the current question @ hand; dont think about the next question or the previous one. Try to adopt this into your practice also. Make a mental note if you feel like you are getting influenced by external factors [loss of confidence from previous quesitons, etc, etc]. Being aware of what you're problems are is the first step to correcting them.

Tell us a little bit more about your GMAT Verbal experience and perhaps everyone here can help you improve. If you feel biz passage are hard for read the WSJ or the Economist, perhaps everyday for 30-45 minutes. The "Views & Opinions" are usually very interesting.

We've had interesting discussions on SC's so i know you're approach to SC is right on track. Above all, dont beat yourself up too much, man. At the end of the day its only a freaking test - something we can take again. I did the same thing that you did. Put myself under a lot of stress.

Post back again and we are here to help.

660 is not bad, jpv, and your math score is great! From what you said, I think the main reason of your underperformance in verbal is due to your lack of a good rest the night before and your being too nervous. A good mental preparation can really change things. I agree with Paul that you should not wait for too long before you retake the test. And given that you've had the experience of this time, I believe you will have a better pre-test mental preparation for yourself next time.

Sorry I forgot about your question here. Your game plan should be to leave quant aside until a week before your next exam. However, it does not preclude you from joining the math challenges which I strongly recommend you to do. As for verbal, you should do that as much as you can. RC is usually tougher so try to as many of those as you can. I hope you tried some LSAT material but if you can afford it, and if you have run out of material, get a copy of the LSAT OG and work on its RC/CR. I hope you still CAT to practice from as they will put you under the right conditions and tone you up for the exam.

Jpv,
It is still a good score, as long it is more than 650 most schools will let you apply. If you are planning to take the test again anyway, here are some pointers

1. Sleep well night before

2. Try not to give full length test night before, it will just drain you out and teaches very little

3. Drink pleanty of fluids, I almost fainted during the exam because the air was very dry in exam center

4. Most important ....Relax, Relax & Relax. Remember, ETS also gives you some bogus questions. Question you got wrong might very well be a bogus question.

Good luck and all the best.
