I just finished taking my first GMAT. My (unofficial) score was better than practiced, but not what I wanted to see.
There was an incident during the test and I don't know if it's worth mentioning to GMAC or if it even had a negative impact on my score, so I am seeking the opinion of the forum.
As I got started in on the AWA portion of the test, I was interrupted by the test admin who told me I was typing too loudly. By this point, I had taken time to plan out the points I was going to make, I had just finished the introduction, and was starting in on the "meat" of the argument. The test admin tapped me on the shoulder, interrupted my train of though (mid-sentence) and told me I was distracting others with my typing. I was pulled out of the moment. Needless to say, it was incredibly frustrating.
So not only did I lose time from the interruption, but it also interrupted my thought process and I don't really feel like I rebounded entirely during the AWA portion. Only time will tell what my score will be.
Additionally, I don't really know what kind of trickle down effect it may have had on the rest of my score. I not only felt off my game coming out of the AWA, I was also acutely aware of my every move and sound...the squeaking chair, the flip of my note pad, the click of the pen cap, etc. etc.
Since my score was slightly better than my practice, I don't really know for sure how it affected me during the exam. Yes, I did better than practice, but not by as much as I felt I could have. I don't particularly want to take the test again, but my score is now below what my target was, and what is the average score for my target school.
Any advice? Are interruptions like that common? Should I retake the test based on the interruption alone? Is there any recourse for interruptions like that?
