Ten short - 690(Q49,V35)

Question

Hi Folks,

Wrote GMAT today, ended up feeling like I've been through this before. I would write much about not making it to 700. You all would know how it feels.

Anyways this is how it all happened.

G-Day
Got up early. Prayed. Left early to the test center.

Formalities.
Business as usual.

Essays.
Argument was OK, issue was subjective hence tricky.

Quant.
Was OK, just that I didn't manage my time. Had to rush at the end. Might have got the last couple wrong.Anyways Q49 is what I deserve.

Verbal.
I strarted off strongly, but must have taken a lot of time, because I had to answer 8 quesions in the final five minutes, with a passage at hand. Didn't read the passage and answered the quesions , as it was about economics. Anyways the last 8 were a miss. Repent not having had a decent crack at these quesions, more so when a couple would have pushed me over to the 700 club.

Anyways no qualms , got a 680 and 700 in PP, hence just got the mean of the two.

Importantly, I would like to thank one and all who have helped me with my GMAT prep. I would certainly be around discussing B school applications.

My 2 cents of advice : Time management is key to success if you are not the super fast kinds.

Congrats! 690 is a good score. If you think you can do better managing time next time, would you re-take it?

690 is enough to make a strong case in any B school if you put extra effort in the over all application process specially those essays.

HMTG, 690 is a good score. No school will keep you out because of the GMAT score alone. 

Could you talk a little bit about the GMAT Verbal section please. What type of SC questions did you see? What order did you see them? What was your timing like  . Was CR your strong suit? Any details you can provide is greatly appreciated.

My first score was same as yours, 690. If you feel you can do better, then give another try. I did it on my second try, and you can do it too.

Sparky, I am a slow thinker and reader, so athough I know that Time management did me in, not sure I can help it.The only sad part is that my reasoning ability is being judged with my grammar and comprehension skills. I feel it does not do me any justice. Anyways I think a good AWA score would help my sagging verbal fortune.

Neways, I am going to start applying to B-schools.

I am planning a career shift from IT to Marketing, off the hand,I know this is not the right place to ask, but could you guys suggest some sure shot schools for me to app.(see my profile in the topic opener)

Gave GMAT another shot.

Got a 720(Q50,V36). This time had 3-4 mins in each section to spare. Not much of prep went in this time around, just wanted to get what I should have got, without having to guess.

So mez done finally. :done

Good determination ! Awesome comeback (30 point jump, inline with how much GMAC says a retaker gets on avg). U shud be happy now, all b-schools only take the highest score, so u can forget abt that 690 now

Awsome.....your inspiring me....I think time managmenet is key also...my gmat score 640 V34 Q44 was low cause i messed up time...

so please share your tips on time managment...I think you seemed to have made it....I guess you were able to get those last 4 question on quant and verbal....
