I have several questions regarding your application. Are you an Indian-American or Indian applicant? If you are Indian-American, you would be considered a minority and not an international student for reporting purposes. In addition, did you earn your 3.83 GPA at a four-year school in the United States? If your answer is yes to both of these questions, then I would not take the GMAT again. If you are not a U.S. citizen, but attended a four-year degree program in the United States, then I would not bother taking the GMAT again. If you an international applicant from an Indian university, then I would say that you should take the GMAT again. Your stats and good enough and if you have solid work experience-- you probably could get into a top 10 business school.

I did not ignore my quant, although I did spend marginally more time in preparation for the Verbal section for the second time. I don't know whether this means that the GMAT test is more statistically variable than we believe it to be, or that I my performance is very inconsistent?

Sorry, I am a retaker myself and I am in the same boat. I have been studying for sometime for second attempt with a focus on Verbal, Now i have a feeling that I ignored Quant. For Quant if you don't practice your brain doesn't identify pattern as easily. Don't you think there was a change in your performance ion your first and second attempt for quant. I am seeing my score consistent in Mocks. When I solve hard problems I feel that my ability to recognize pattern is not as good as it used to be in my first attempt.

You are right about not being able to recognize patterns, but my quant score during the mocks wasn't very different from what I was scoring the first time. It must be the repeat questions on GMATPrep which gave me a false sense of security.

Thanks for the reply, I am an Indian citizen and received my undergraduate degree from a University in the United States. My primary target school is ISB Hyderabad, they have average GMAT of 710 for their admits. I have a two years post-graduation work experience, but my work experience is decent not stellar. I think I would be more confident with a 700+ score.

If you think you can do better in the next test I would advice you to re-take if you are targeting ISB and be in the range of 730, that will definitely improve your chances given your work-ex. Apply in Rd 2
