Last october I had taken the GMAT with great success: 710 (46,41). However, I was not satisfied by my quant score, and being a pharmacist (not an unltra-quant undergaduate degree) I had my worries that AdComs could pay a little too much attention to a not so stellar quantitative side of my exam. Therefore, as I had time, and was doing great so far with my essays, I decided I would retake the GMAT, looking to improve my score to a 730, so I couldat least meet the average of every school.
So, in late July I started again studying GMAT.
StrategyWhen you aim for a different result, you have to change your strategy a little bit. Last time I had taken a 11- day course, and used only OG and supplements. This time, I tried to go deeper into some math concepts, instead of just review the basics and taking questions. Thus, I got myself a copy, and read, of all
MGMAT Guides, and also got some Probability and Combinatronics materials from GMAt Club, that helped me better understand those problems quickly. This helped me ace some probelms that used to consider to be tricky or difficult.
Besides that, I also experience a boost of confidence. I don´t know tha cuase exactly, but I have been quicker at deciphering the information given, knowing what to look for, and more confident when picking and answer, at quant, and also at verbal.
I als otook the 4 GMAT official practice exams, one per week:
Exam 1; 770 (50, 44) on the 1st week of August
Exam 2: 770 (50, 47) on the 3rd week of August
Exam 3: 750 (49, 42) on the 2nd week of August
Exam 4: 770 (50, 44) on the 4th week of August
The ExamAfter my results on the preparation tests, I was confident I could reach my goal of a 730, an even improve it. I got to the test center quite calm, as I had already been there, and went quickly through all pre-exam procedures.
AWA: I find it to be an easy text, with many flaws to point and comment. No problem.
IR. started a little nervous, and it cost me some time in the fisrt couple questions. I ended guessing the last one, but I thought I had not done a bad job.
Quant: this time, I was not nervous when starting this section, but eager. There was a point in which I though many questions looked very easy, but tried not to think about and focus on what I was doing. The good news was that almost no question left me without knowing how to proceed, and that I did not take too much time on any of them. When I was done, I was confident it would not be a bad score.
Verbal: here I had no problem. I started with some doubts on the first 2 questions or so, but when I reached full speed, I had not problem figuring out every question and I was sure I was doing a good job.
The resultsIR 8 Q 50 V 44 760When I saw it on the screen I felt so relieved... I had given my best and it had paid off. Now I can focus on my essays knowing that my GMAT is working on my favour.
