I scored 700 on my first attempt at GMAT. Though a lot of practise went into the same, to be precise - 13 days of hardcore simulation, but more than 2 months of itsy bitsy preparations.
Though both the sections have not crossed 90 percentiles, it is only because of consistency in both, i.e. scored above 80 percentile in both fetched a good reward of 700.
My advice with regard to preparations is to refer to 'The Official Guidet for GMAT review' and practise a lot with the testing software of Kaplan and The Princeton Review.
Kaplan is definitely tougher. In practice, the highest score in Kaplan, I could manage was a paltry 560. But in Princeton Review, my score was around 670.
One mistake I did was that I didnot practice adequately with the essays at the same time as I was simulating. In the real test, I realized the importance. I was exhausted when I reached midway through the verbal section and was feeling when it would get over. This resulted in drop of my score by atleast 30.
Moreover, I would like to know from the moderators whether I stand a chance for admission in Wharton, Chicago, Tuck, Fuqua, MIT Sloan and Darden with a GMAT score of 700, GPA of 3.6, 2 years of work experience (by the time I join the college) and good amount of sports participation and event organization. I already have my MBA from a third rung college in India along with a specialization post graduation course in Treasury.
