Hi All,
I appeared for GMAT last week and got an expected 760( V44, Q50 and AWA 6). Received a 730 and 750 in Powerprep given within a week earlier from my exam, GMAT club was really helpful in my final pitch to the exam. I presume my experience will be helpful for many others.
Course Material: Manhattan for RC and SC, Powerscore for CR, Grockit and OG for practice.
Preparation finepoints: I gave my GMAT 2 years back and scored a disappointing 690. Disappointing because I scored 740 each in both the powerprep tests. Based on the experience last time and this time, here are my two cents:
1. Its always important to pace your exam well. You might want to move on from the questions where you are stuck. Just trust your ears and move on. You should not be in a situation answering last 10 questions in 10 min or so-exactly my mistake in the first attempt.
2. Actual GMAT is a bit tougher than GMAT prep, and
MGMAT. Add to that, the exam conditions make it look even tougher. Hence its important to practice tough questions on RC, CR and SC. Grockit is good in that respect. Last 10 days, I revised the theory and practiced tough questions from Grockit on the same topic.
3. RC is my strength. Read a passage, irrespective of its subject-arts, philosophy, as if you will be learning something new. I remember learning a thing or two about climate change, Mesopotamian civilization: the subjects of the passage in my GMAT exam. Read the passage thoroughly, even if it takes a bit longer than usual; you can always make up for the lost time by answering 4-5 questions in 4-5 min.
4. SC- Its very crucial to read the entire sentence carefully before moving to the choices. Read it again, and your instinct will point you to a mistake in the sentence, if you have read the concepts well.
5. CR- Be mindful of the extreme words: Many, most, all etc. In many cases, negation choices are the correct answers.
Hope these strategies will help some of the fellow test takers.
