I am a non native speaker with 5+ years of experience , I attempted GMAT 2nd time today and got only 620 (Q-47 and V-28).
I am totally stumped by this score. I got 700+ in last 3 GMAT PREP test. I have been preparing since last 5 months(approx) and did every thing suggested by experts on this forum.
Books & materials used
Quant:
Kaplan Quant review
GMAT Club Book and Test
Verbal :
MGMAT Book
e-gmat Course - indeed a very good course for SC . improved my accuracy.
Test score information is attached in file.
Last 3 Gmat Prep:
Gmat Prep 1 : 730 (Q-49, V-40)
Gmat Prep 2: 710 (Q-48, V-39)
Gmat Prep 3 : 750 (Q-50, V-42) (2 days before Test, few questions were seen so i assumed that score is inflated but expected that i will get at least 700)
For Quant : I brushed my basics from Kaplan book and then directly attempted the questions. I was getting a good score but not 48-49. In last GMAT (i gave in 2012, 610 (Q-45, V-29)) , i got 45 . In one debrief on GMATclub , one fellow mentioned that "i thought that i should focus on my strength, so i tried GMATCLUB Test and found that they were useful".
He inspired me So i thought to try
GMAT Club test, (I got access with
e-gmat course). I will say that
GMAT club test are awesome. If you really want to achieve 48-51 in Quant then
gmat club tests are best. They tests all the concepts those are tested in GMAT and the explanations given by Bunnuel are excellent . I just did
Gmat club test to prepare quant .
Also i susbscribed daily question from GMAT club and solved religiously on daily basis. I got really good questions and explanations, from which a learned a lot.
During Exam, i got very easy questions in Gmat exam today except 2-3 and i was afraid that i might be doing bad. Finally i got 47 in quant. I think i could improve more by 2-3 points.
For verbal :
I started with
MGMAT SC book that i bought in 2012 when i last gave GMAT exam.
After studying even 2 times , my score stuck at 31-32 that time i decided to go with
e-gmat course. I registered for free session and and found it useful. Then i paid for the course. I studied
e-gmat course thoroughly, but then also my score did not improved beyond 650. i was getting hopeless. Then i discussed with Payal via mail and she concluded that i have not imbibed process thoroughly. then i came through one debrief (process is the Key), in which the fellow mentioned that if u imbibe the process then u can do each and every question. After analyzing whole situation i realized that i was mixing concepts of
MGMAT and e-gmat . Then i did all the course again with each and every question of OG and 2nd edition guide. I would know that why any choice is correct and why any choice is wrong. For any tough question i would try to explain it on GMAT Club forum. this helped me to imbibe the concept that i was weak in. Finally my verbal score reasched 37-40 and in my last 5 mock test i scored 35+ in verbal.
This time i attempted only official questions in verbal.
For CR i did e-gmat and CR Bible. and For RC i did all OG question.
Initially i was facing lot of difficult in RC then i studied many tricks and tips and finally i got the way by which my accuracy got up.
I was confident in verbal.
During my GMAT exam today i was doing fairly well and my accuracy was good. I got 2 long passage and those took my much time. I saw the clock - 15 min remaining and 14 ques left. I skipped one CR question, did on SC question and then got one RC passage. I tried to do my best but i know i made many mistakes in last questions, I could not time it properly. I also took more time in few CR initially. I don't know where was the mistake. I was facing timing and stamina problem in initial mocks but i recovered both of them during my practice. I gave timed mocks. I accept that in last two GMAT prep i saw few repeated questions, but still i was confident that i would touch at least 700 mark.
I fell ill 4 days before my exam but i can not say that it effected my score cause today i was healthy, confident and had good stamina.
I also downloaded all official question sheet, made by Souvik. However i could not do all the questions cause i attempted that in my last week of preparation.
Now i am confused and unable to understand that where did i mistake. Looking out for some suggestions.
I want to attempt GMAT again because somewhere inside i know that this is not the correct measure of my ability. I can do better. But currently i am getting hopeless and i do not know that where to start again. I gave my 100 % and feeling totally exhausted. I became socially inactive in last few months. Sacrificed all my plans, get together and i put each and every minute of my time to GMAT Preparation . Please suggest me that what should i do now. From where should i start again.
I have wasted all GMAT PREP mock test. Please suggest some good mock series and a way to approach the test now. :
Also please suggest how can i overcome timing issue in verbal. I completed Quant 2 min before but struggled with timing in verbal
GMAT Club verbal tests are not upto the GMAT mark. They are easier than gmat at least in SC and CR. There are very good questions on forum that we can include in our GMAT Club verbal test to make them upto the mark.
I also tried
MGMAT tests: I found quant super hard compared to GMAT and verbal easier than gmat.
However my score is not good enough that i could advice someone, still here are my few suggestions:
1. Please try to stick with official question for verbal section and work on time management and stamina for the test day.
2. Try to do official question for verbal .
3. Know that why any choice is correct and any choice is wrong.
4. Develop a process to tackle questions and try to imbibe that process.
