Hi all,
Just to share my experience: I have been studying the gmat for a month and took it today. My first practice test was at 680 and I scored 720 (MGMAT) and 750 (Gmat prep) just three days before taking the exam. Exam day arrived and I got 600, far away from what I was expecting and to be honest I felt it went ok (even got some combinatorics questions in quant).
So, does it happen often? I am pretty sure if I take another practice test now I will score above 700.
So what is the best strategy going forward to improve and be sure that I will not fail again? (I am planning on retaking the exam in January or February next year, unfortunately I cannot do it in December).

I feel you mate...on CATs i used to get 640-650
on the real GMAT I got 560, Q - I was running out of time, and 5-6 guessed blindly, the difficulty level was ok, I got a 42 on Quant..
but on verbal..i screwed big times..planning on retaking in december or january...

In your situation, it's definitely worth it to do a retake. You will never know what the exact reason is -- so give it a second shot.
If there are any areas that you were not 100% confident about, make sure you make a mental note and put extra emphasis on that area.
As for practice tests, you may be interested in taking another practice test to test yourself and see if you really are able to perform to the best of your ability. We have video solutions to each question on the test available. https://www.gmatpill.com/gmat-practice-t ... ctice-test
