Hello everyone!! i've been lurking around for a while now reading all the useful stuff you guys write.Congratulations for inspiring people and making them believe they can do it!!!
Ok,so about a month ago i decided i had to take the gmat this year for reasons there is no need to discuss.Just a sudden change of plans.I need your help in evaluating me and my potential because i am a bit confused.I will continue by presenting my preparation along with CAT scores and the actual GMAT score, which i took today.I will try to make it as short and comprehensive as possible.
So i began preparing.I bought the OG review along with the extra 2 books(verbal and quant).I studied the theory for the quant(how to calculate the surface area, volumes etc which i had completely forgotten) and worked on about 70% of the quant questions and 80% of the verbal questions from the extra 2 guides(I didn't touch the big one which included everything)
Then i took my
first GMATPREP Practice test: 600(Q 43, V 29)After the debacle i studied 2 out of the 5
Manhattan Gmat Quant guides(Number properties and Word problems).NO verbal practice or studying.
Took the
second GMATPREP practice test(after 14 days that is): 640(Q 45,V 34)Then for 8 days i read less than 30% of the verbal
Manhattan GMAT guides which were really of no use since i didn't have time to practice anything.I didn't even adhere to one simple guideline during the proper exam.I also solved some of the extra questions i hadn't practiced from the extra Verbal guide.
Today(8 days after 2nd cat) I went in for the
REAL exam: 690 (Q 44, V 40)I know it is not the super-duper score that will get you into Harvard(or Imperial since that is what I am aiming at :D ).But i was pretty shocked from my performance.I was DREAMING of maybe scoring 650 due to my CAT results.
So,what do you guys think happened? Was i just lucky? How lucky can you get in this exam(particularly in the verbal)???
Or,to rephrase it,how much improvement do you think is possible?
P.S: I really messed up the quant.I still can't believe how this happened. The questions up to around 15-17 were easy and i solved them quick,so i was taking my time afterwards and just forgot to start rushing again. All in all i would say i answered at lest 4-5 questions by guessing and some were easy as well....
Thank you sooo much in advance.
