Hey guys,
Today I scored 680 (Q44 V39) I really needed 680 at the very least because the program I am applying to (MSc Finance&Banking at Sankt Gallen University in Switzerland) has a cut off score of 680 and does not even consider applicants with lower scores.
Regardless, I am sad that I did not score at least 700 because I feel like I was EXTREMELY unlucky in Verbal. I got the only type of passage I did not want - geology. I mean, can it possibly go worse ?
One one other passage, I did not understand the first sentence of the text, which basically conveyed the whole tone, thoughts, and beliefs of the author. As you can guess, things did not go well with that passage either. When I was doing RC from the OG, out of 120 questions, I got 7-8 wrong. TOday out of 14 questions , Probably got 5-6 wrong...
CR was also very difficult, but it is expected at the 90th percentile. SC I found the easiest. Really , 1 or 2 at most felt difficult, and I find that unbelievable since most people reported that SC is very different than the one in the OG.
For the quant, I am somehow happy with my score. I did not prepare properly, to say the least. I did not do anything from the quant review, and as for the OG, I did only half of the DS questions.
Because of my job and tons of other things, I did not have time to prepare. So , I was expecting something along the lines of 43-45. What I hoped was that I would be able to break into the 700s with a solid Verbal of 41-2 but it it did not happen.
Another thing worth mentioning was that I did not do a single GMAT prep exam. I did not have time to do it in the previous weeks and I did not want to do it the week before the exam not to depress my confidence in case of a failure. So I did not know really whether to expect a 500 or a 700...
Bottom line, I am really happy that I have hit my target of 680 but feel that, with some luck, I could of got that 700.

Your review is interesting in that you have a great score (680 is just shy of the 90th percentile overall), but you have mixed feelings about it. You've also explained the rather WIDE variety of work that you did NOT do during your preparation, so expecting to score this high was a questionable deduction to begin with.
All things being equal, you've done incredibly well under the circumstances. Here are the major shortcomings in your studies (that you've admitted to):
1) Your study timeframe was short. Most Test Takers spend 3 months (or more) on their studies to hit their "peak" scores.
2) You didn't do ANY Full-length CATs during your studies, so you weren't properly trained to face the FULL GMAT. The problems that you faced in the Verbal section were likely due to fatigue (since you were not used to taking the full 4-hour Exam).
3) You did minimal Quant work, so the idea that you were "expecting" to score in a particular range seems silly (how did you "know" what range you were in?).
With more time and a better structure to your studies, you could have likely scored well into the 700s. As it stands, it sounds like this score is just fine for your situation/plans.
When is the application deadline for the Program that you're interested in?

Indeed I had not done a full length test prior to the exam. However, I knew the percentile distributions and I knew that when it comes for quant, a score of 43-45 (56-60th %), which is slightly above the average, is what I should expect because I did not really do every questions, the ones I did I made a lot of mistakes, and apart from the lack of practice, I didnt really feel comfortable I knew all the formulas and theory. For example, I missed apparently easy work problem because I was not sure about the volume of a cylinder
So more or less I was expecting an average score in Q and I got it...
As for V, the lack of practice really hit me. I was getting almost all practice questions right, but what I didnt predict was that after getting 6-7 consecutive right, the ones that will follow will be brutal. Of course, there was also no doubt that at the 90th percentile I was going to get a geology passage)
Anyway, there is nothing really I could do because the deadline to apply is 30th of April...I should of taken it earlier:)
