Hi amitagia,

The application process involves far more than a GMAT score, so I'm curious how you know that you were rejected because of your GMAT score?

Can you go into more detail about your application process? What Schools did you apply to and when? After you were rejected, did you contact the each School's Admissions Department and receive official word about WHY you were rejected?

I applied to Georgetown and Olin! I received interview invitations from both schools and in my opinion, the interviews went well. My reject mail from Georgetown states something along the lines of, "we look for students with balanced scores and in particular, students who demonstrate strong quantitative abilities". While this was just one of the many things they mentioned in the mail, it stuck with me.. since it is what I perceive as my negative!

Hi amitagia,

Since you were granted interviews at both of those Schools, your overall application was strong enough to pique the interest of both Admissions Committees. It's possible that your interviews went great, but that other applicants simply came across as more impressive (and it's also possible that your interviews didn't go as well as you think that they did). If what you say is true - that there were several points that were mentioned in the rejection letter - then focusing solely on your GMAT score as the cause of the rejection seems likely a dubious conclusion.

I completely agree with you. Interviews can be very subjective and it is indeed possible that I may not have performed as well as I think I did . But while I'd never attribute my lack of admissions completely to my GMAT scores, I do think that it may have played a pivotal role!

Thanks for your post; I had a very similar score and it's nice to hear about others' experience with the same score.

Thanks bb, EMPOWERgmatRichC and amitagia

amitagia: When were you rejected from these two schools and in what round? Could you inform a bit about your profile, especially your IR score and your GPA ?

I am concerned about your comment that Georgetown said they prefer "students who demonstrate strong quantitative abilities" because I have a very low GPA in my undergrad. Although that is because I was part of some extraordinary extracurricular activities ( founded the local chapter of an international not-for-profit and then lead a team of 80 active individuals ) , I doubt that the adcom will be convinced with my low IR score. Moreover, my nationality is Indian. I have heard that Indians usually require at 40 points more in their GMAT score than the average GMAT score of the school they are applying to.

I am thinking that I should just focus on making my application now because of the limited time left before round 2 deadline and then think about re-taking the GMAT within a month (or whatever time this should be assuming I will apply by 5 January ?) EMPOWERgmatRichC: any suggestions or recommendations ?
