Hi Everyone
I have attempted the GMAT 3 times now and haven't been able to score higher than 630 I requested the Enhanced Report Score from GMAt for each test and can't help to think that the exam is very volatile with a lot of factors other than knowledge and timing at play. Factors such as state of mind during the exam, attitude, luck with types of questions among others. For example someone that scored in 700ths can easily score in the 600th in their next attempt. From looking at my ERS I can see I could have scored much higher in the 700th if I scored my best in verbal. See image below.
Care to share your thoughts on this matter is the GMAT a fair exam? What other factors such candidates take into account? I am thinking of retaking the GMAT and would like your opinion on it. Thanks in advance

The GMAT is certainly 'sensitive' to little mistakes - if you make too many of them, then you won't be able to hit your goal score. GMAT has publicly stated that a Test Taker's Official Score is within +/- 30 points of actual ability. With your 3 scores, it certainly looks like your current ability 'level' is in the low-600s. To raise that level, you'll need to make some changes to how you 'see' (and respond to) the GMAT.
1) What is your goal score?
2) How long have you studied?
3) What materials have you used?
4) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
Thankfully, the GMAT is a consistent, predictable Test, so you CAN train to score at a higher level.

Hi Jonas,
While I agree that there are a lot of factors involved in your score, but labelling GMAT exam as unfair would not be fair.
I see that your are trying to say that if we pick your best scores in each subsections and make a score, you would cross percentile.
But picture this: You can juggle one ball very easily, two are also manageable, but as soon as you incorporate a third ball, things start getting tough.
It is the same with GMAT too. You need to perform your best in each section/subsection on the test day.
Go back to your mock CATs and try to dig deep:
SC: The questions test various concepts such as S-V agreement, modifiers, parallelism etc. Find out what troubles you.
CR: There might be certain types of questions that are troubling you. May be Assumption, may be conclusion, inference etc.
You need to find that out and then practice them
RC: This again can be drilled down into different types of questions and also different topics. See what questions and topics trouble you the most and then practice accordingly.
PS, DS: Identify the topics that trouble you the most. Ex: Algebra, Geometry, PnC etc.
Before we can suggest a strategy, I would like to know about the following questions:
1. What preparatory material have you used?
2. What were you mock CAT scores?
