Hey guys,
Just wanted to post this to share my experience so far and reflect on it to keep my sanity.
I started my journey by starting a general review of the test and understanding how it worked rather than jumping into learning each subject. I then took a GMAT Prep 1 after 2 weeks in November and scored a 540. I enrolled in Empowergmat and by god does that course kick ass! In just under a month my score jumped to 590 on GMAT Prep 2 in December.
The next month was really time off for the holidays and to catch up with life. When I returned in mid January I hit the ground running and began intense 4 hour days of studying and spent 6 weeks covering various topics on the forum focused on both Verbal and Quant as well as going through the
Manhattan GMAT Sentence correction book.
After this I wondered if I was actually improving the way I though I was in my head. yesterday I fired up
Manhattan GMAT test 1 at a public library. I felt nervous towards the middle of the test as I realized I had to rush through IR just to finish this time and that I had run out of time and failed to answer 1 Quant question. I kept getting distracted as kids came into the library to meet their tutors and basically assumed I had bombed Verbal as I had to quickly christmas tree the last 10-12 questions of the Verbal section just to finish! Even after this I failed to answer one question. I was dishearten because I felt like my timing I hadn't had a problem with before was a disaster and wondered if it was the varied test experience in the public Library. Score sheet pops up and....boom! I scored 640! I was ecstatic and relieved that I was actually going somewhere in my almost 3 months of study
My progress in summary (All Full CATS taken):
11/28/15 GMAT Prep 1: 540 Q35 V32 IR3
12/12/15 GMAT Prep 2: 590 Q41 V30 IR7
02/11/16
MGMAT 1: 640 Q44 V33 IR2
I'd like to end off this long winded story with a couple of questions:
I am pretty satisfied with my Quant score here, I hear
Manhattan GMAT is tougher than the real thing in terms of Quant so should I be confident in my ability to score Q45+ on the real thing?
My verbal barely improved overall but I feel that this was mainly an issue with my timing and failure to concentrate enough in the setting, should I rationalize to myself that I could have done better and that it was my environments fault?
Lastly, my IR......how did I even pass high school...whats going on here...I need help here please, any advice would be appreciated
Thanks for reading guys, I just wanted to assure you guys can improve greatly too if you put in the time. My end goal is to clear a 680 overall in the next couple of months (Maybe even 700 if possible).
