Hello fellow GMATers...
I first attempted this beast Jan. 5 - only scored 520 (Q30, V31). I had only about two weeks to prepare. Used Kaplan Premier and GMAT prep. The quantitative section really shook me which resulted in a bad verbal as well.
I did not return to studying until two weeks ago. I purchased the OG 11th edition (a must...in fact, I wish I would have purchased it for my first study attempt). I think that the OG questions are more reflective of what you will see on the test. Kaplan is good, but it is harder, which for me resulted in a great deal of frustration and anxiety going into the exam.
If I had it to do over (but I am really glad I won't!) I would have started with the OG and the GMAT prep tests and then moved to Kaplan once I felt more confident.
My second attempt was yesterday and I was relieved to score a 640 (Q42, V36). Now it is application time.
Best of luck to all of you that are tackling this not-so-fun endeavor. My best advice is to stay calm during the exam - don't get rattled when a question or questions stump you.
Take good care.
