Hi fellow members,
I have been preparing for gmat for past 6-7 months, During the course of the preparation, I learned a lot and after gaining enough confidence, I decided to take the exam on july 14, 2018. The test did not go as expected, and I ended up getting a low 590 (q48, v23).
It was a very dismal performance and something which shattered me. Since then, I have been trying to get back to preparation, but not able to focus and resume my preparation.
I am seeking some advice and help on how I can get back to preparation and more importantly how can I improve and achieve my dream score.(700+)
Materials Used:
I used EGMAT SC, OG, verbal review, GMATPREP and Veritas Material for practice, as well as solved questions on
whatsapp groups from different sources.
I also saw some videos from Ron/GMATninja.
Quants:
Theory I did from Egmat and then I just practiced questions on
whatsapp groups and mocks. I am not utterly disappointed with quants score, however I do feel I can get q49/q50 in quants.
Verbal:
Verbal has always been my weakness, When I started prep, I used to have no clue about SC and CR questions, but slowly I started getting better at solving the questions. I used to get 70-80% accuracy on SC in OG and EGMAT. For CR, I was around 70-80% accuracy (OG), and RC also around 60-70% (OG, GMATPREP)
I used to fare decently in mocks. Please check my mock scores down below. However, I never felt confident on RCs. One bad RC was enough to screw up my whole verbal section. This actually happened in one of my gmatprep mocks, in which I got a decently hard RC in Question 2-5, which I flunked, and after that I lost the momentum, and this affected my overall verbal performance, ended up getting a v25. This is something I experienced even on the official exam.
I did create error logs and revised my mocks. But I felt I could have done a better job at it.
Veritas hovered between 650-680
GMAT Prep : 1. (Feb) 620 , 2. (may end) 680 (June mid) 3. 710 . 4. 610 (July 2nd week) 5. 700 6. 740.
Leading upto the exam, I was feeling confident and ended up getting a low 590.
I will also answer some of the questions Rich asks:
1) What did you do in the 3 days before your GMAT?
I gave a mock, GMAT 6 and got a 740. After that I did not give any mocks and just revised some questions on comparisons and quants formula.
2) How did you sleep the night before your Test?
Sleep was fine. I was well rested, my exam was 4 pm in evening.
3) How long was the ride to the Test Center from your home?
20 mins.
4) Were there any distractions at the facility or during the Test?
Not really, some typing from fellow test takes but It was ok.
5) What did you do during the two 8-minute breaks?
I took the breaks, went to the restroom. Had slight snacks and some Gatorade.
6) Did you finish any sections early?
No, I felt time pressure in all the sections.
7) Did you have to rush to finish any sections (and guess on questions just to finish on time)?
Yes, I had to rush with all the sections.
