I am really struggling because my practice test scores do not match my scores in the actual exam. On the question bank and in my mahattan course I was scoring between 45 and 48 on math but on the real test I only scored 40. I also find that my reading score decreases significantly. I took the test in total 4 times and have still never gotten above 600. I am wondering what others find are the best strategies to ensure that practice results are more accurate.

Hi pingc ..
I am sorry to hear that you did not got your desired score in official exam. This can happen with text anxiety and stress. What kind of resources you have used till now? Did you completed OG? What is your target score?
Kindly share some more details about you to give you a better advise. There 600 level score shows you still lack some basic concepts which are required to improve. You need to change the strategy a bit by taking a look at different prep course or personal tutor.

Hi pingc,

I’m sorry to hear how things have been going with your GMAT. Since you have taken the GMAT 4 times and have yet to break 600, it’s a sign that you have numerous weak areas in quant and verbal that must be strengthened in order to improve your overall GMAT score. pingc - I am so sorry to hear your bad experiences with the GMAT. Please do not feel disheartened. Sometimes practice test scores are not reflective of one's actual scoring abilities.

Quite frankly, exam anxiety can throw even the most prepared test-takers off balance. Therefore, the GMAT experts always recommend that practice tests be taken in ideal testing conditions so that the test day experience can be somehow replicated. Even after considering all this advice, you should always mentally prepare your self for any kind of surprise. I personally recommend that you practice meditation or some kind of breathing exercises in the weeks following up to the test day. During the test, you should be calm & composed and not let your nerves get to you. Also, practice light exercises, anything that you are comfortable with, in the weeks following up to the test day.

Hi pingc,

Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) On what dates did you take EACH of your 4 Official GMATs and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
2) How long did you study before each of your GMATs?
3) What study materials have you used over the course of ALL of your studies?
4) On what dates did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
5) What is your overall goal score?
6) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
7) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

In addition, you might also choose to purchase the Enhanced Score Report for your most recent Official GMAT. While the ESR doesn’t provide a lot of information, there are usually a few data points that we can use to define what went wrong on Test Day (and what you should work on to score higher). If you purchase the ESR, then I'll be happy to analyze it for you.
