Thanks for your post!!!

I'll try to answer as many of your questions as I can.

I studied using the Kaplan online self-study module.

I took the PowerPrep twice. These Q/V scores are approximate:

46Q
38V
Total - 680

43Q
38V
Total - 650

In addition, I took the Kaplan test once.

39Q
38V
Total - 630

My timing was better on the 680 PowerPrep test than on the others. I took the tests without the essays and I didn't make an error log.

I will probably have to put in at least 20-30 hours a week if I'm going to do much better (I had put in half that much previously).

English is my first language but I know that sentence correction was my achilles' heel. Also, you could say that I got extremely nervous on the actual test towards the end of the verbal section as I probably didn't maximize my time and was forced to hurry through the last 6-7 questions.

As for other areas,

Critical Reasoning - I'm a cynic by nature. This is not a serious weakness but any tips on improving this would be appreciate.

Reading Comprehension - My strength in this subject depends on how familiar I am with the subject. Political & Economy-related passages are easy for me. The science-related passages are torture as they take up a lot of time for me to read and understand.

Sentence Correction - Believe it or not, I've never been good at this.

Geometry - I have mastered the basics but have some trouble in more complicated areas (It's been 20 years since I've taken a geometry class.)

Permutations/Combinations - A weakness.

AWA - I admit that I didn't put in a lot of time into this and it is probably going to be reflected in my scores.

If I get rejected tomorrow, I probably will take a class as I only want to take this wretched test one more time.

I hope this provides a more thorough analysis of where I'm coming from.

Any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I will write more later as I am running to a golf game, if i forget, send me message.

The first problem I see is a lack of GMATPrep software listing on your prep list. I'd also say you have not taken enough practice exams. I've seen people pull amazing scores without ever taking even one, but most people I know take it at least five or six times. I took probably close to 15. My study partner took close to 10.

I have a method to reading comprehension that, if followed, cuts the time required in half and makes any passage easy. There are some posts I've made about it here, I will try to dig them up.

Sentence correction - Purchase the manhattan SC book. If you are considering taking a class, I'd venture your best route would be to just take a manhattan class, but if not, purchase the manhattan SC and manhattan CR guides.

You also make no mention of the official guide. This is THE master guide for studying and trying to prepare without it, as far as im concerned, means you might as well get drunk before the exam, cause there's no way Kaplan comes close.

My personal opinion of Kaplan is that the material they have is poor. I will reply more when I return, but in short - the major things I see so far (in no particular order):

(1) Lack of Official Guide use - probably your #1 mistake
(2) Kaplan prep material is poor
(3) Not enough practice exams
(4) No mention of an error log
(5) An incorrect approach to Critical Reasoning (I will expand later)
(6) Taking tests without the essays - people always underestimate how much longer the exam feels with them, and every single person who comes in here saying they didnt do the essays in their practice exams, is always coming in here with a "dissapointing" score. The GMAT is as much a test of endurance as it is a test of math and verbal skills.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot later tonight with some excercises. But you'd mention that you would provide a link on CR. That looked more like RC training.
