Hi All,
This is not a debrief but a cry for help. I am at a place where I am really confused as how to proceed further. What to do? If I am even fit for an MBA.
My Profile:
Completed B.Tech in 2012.
Working in IT as a tester since 2013 (7 years experience).
My experience is on a higher side and I come from an over represented pool. Already I think I am not fit for an MBA corse anymore.
I gave my first GMAT in 2018, and scored
600. After that I tried to study again but due to various issues and job I was not able to study. Yesterday I again appeared for exam and scored 650(Q47 V33)
I started studying seriously in the lockdown. Attempted GMAT Prep mocks at home. A trend I see with my mock exam: I was scoring 700 in mock but as exam day comes closer I start panicking and score less in mock. In the last mock that I gave one day before exam I was sleep deprived and had some issue, I scored only 620 in the mock. This was already a red flag. I was short on time for both quant and verbal section. Quant I had consistently scored 49-50 but on my last mock and actual GMAT I scored only 47, which was a blow. Quant questions were easy in the actual exam (or at least I felt that while attempting). There were no PnC or Probability questions. At time I already felt that I have made some mistakes and my Quant section did not go very well.
Verbal section started well, but then the questions felt too easy and I started doubting that something is wrong and due to overthinking I think I messed my CR. RC's were easy but I was short on time and skimmed 2 passages. I think before submitting my last question time was already over.
IR section was another blow I scored only 2.
I took
e-gmat course understood the concept file for SC(That was my worst section in verbal).
I take lot of time in analyzing a sentence and hence, I am mostly short on time. I have practiced all the questions from OG, understood the explanation but when I see new sentence in exam I am sometimes not able to understand in exam pressure or get confused between 2 options. Same thing happened in CR. I didn't mark any answer with full confidence.
In RC when I encounter unfamiliar word, I sometimes find it difficult to comprehend complete passage. I keep re-reading sentences. My accuracy keeps fluctuating a lot. Sometimes I am able to understand the difficult passages also but sometime falter in easy passage.
My 700 in previous GMAT mock may be because I had already attempted them before and my score would be inflated.
I have done OG. Understood the concepts. Practiced questions. My problem is timing and sometimes I miss details in questions and overthink. I am not sure how to improve it.
We are already near Round 1 deadline and I am not sure as how to improve my RC-- comprehension depends on passage to passage, and do verbal section with confidence. The courses are good but it is my gap from understanding to actually applying the method.
My queries are:
1. I have completely lost my confidence and feel like a failure. Should I go for next attempt, how to improve?
2. I want an MBA but I am already 30 working in IT. With an average profile. Will I be able to get in a college?
3. How to improve comprehension and stop over thinking in verbal section? - I try to read the books but stop after few days as I don't get enough time.
4. I have already practiced OG and there are questions that I remember. Now, how can I further improve in each section?
5. I want to apply this year but I am already late as when to take the exam and most importantly how to improve?
