Hello,
Millennial94, and welcome to the community. Congratulations on earning a 99th-percentile score. That total score is far and away the most important GMAT™ consideration for any admissions committee. Schools more or less brush aside the IR and AWA scores, as long as they meet a certain baseline. In IR, that score is 5; in AWA, typically 4.0. I suspect that if the rest of your application is in good shape and you write some strong essays, that will be good enough. At the same time, you always want to put your best foot forward, and a retake with higher scores in IR and AWA (even one or the other) might help. I will admit that it pained me to hear about your struggles with AWA.
This post by
chineseburned, which explains how to write a perfect essay, has so many kudos that they are hard to keep track of. IR just takes practice to work out the kinks. (Some of the phrasing can be misleading and, in my view, inconsistent in ways that are not present in other areas of the test.)
In short, your IR and AWA scores will
not preclude you from gaining admission to a top-tier school. If your profile is strong, coupled with your outstanding total score, it will increase the likelihood of a positive outcome. If you are too nervous about hitting baseline scores in IR and AWA, though, you can always take the hot-seat once more. (You have done it before.)
Good luck, whatever you decide.
