As the thread title says, I am done and dusted. 690- Q48, V37. IR = 7.
I started preparing for GMAT about 3 months ago. I took one of the two GMAT Prep free mocks and scored 620. I started working on my weak areas. Relatively, my verbal score was slightly better than Quant, so I focused on Quant more.
1. Quant preparation
Nothing, and I mean nothing, prepares you for Quant like GMAT Club. The quality of questions and the expert solutions are top notch. My quant score boosted only because of GMAT Club. Special thanks to Bunuel for making Quant on GMAT Club what it is today.
I solved as many questions as possible on GMAT Club. PS Butler and DS Butler were helpful in maintaining the rigor. Whenever I identified a weak area, I used the question bank to practice more questions in this area. I had trouble with inequalities and absolute values and mixture problems. I improved my knowledge and timing greatly because of the questions on this forum. I used
Error Log to analyze my mistakes and learn from them, but I also ensured I read the discussion even when I got the answer right. I picked up many new techniques shared by experts and others on the thread.
2. Verbal
Power Score CR Bible, Aristotle SC were the two books I used and found useful. My RC was fairly decent, so did not refer any book for this.
Relatively, I found the Verbal CAT on GMAT Club not as great as Quant. I found Veritas Prep better for Verbal CATs.
3. MOCKS
GMAT Club CATs - hands down the best ones. Especially for Quant.
Veritas Prep CATs
GMAT Prep - 1&2 3&4
I used my points to get Premium Bundle and discount on GMAT Prep.
I was very lucky that HOT happened just when I was looking for more points and kudos. The two weeks of HOT were intense - excellent questions, even better answers and awesome competition. I built up a lot of kudos just because of HOT. Thanks
bb for organizing this.
My mock scores were way better. I scored between 690 to 730 on GMAT Club. 710-720 on Veritas. 700-710 on GMAT Prep. A bit disappointed that I didn't cross 700, but 690 is enough for me to get the course I want.
4. Actual Exam
I have never run out of time on any of my mocks, but was very surprised that I almost ran out of time in the actual exam in Quant. I didn't have to guess any question for lack of time, but felt like I had to rush through things.
Looking back, I think Verbal let me down. I should have prepared better. Irony is - I never prepared for IR. And look at that score - 7!
Bunuel, you are invaluable to every GMAT aspirant. Your love for math is admirable. I enjoyed solving your questions, but enjoyed reading your solutions even more.
There was one question on the exam today which stumped me and cannot stop thinking about it even now. Wanted to share it with you over PM (since I can't post it publicly), but your PM is turned off. Is there any way I can send you the question and you can let me know how to solve it? It will bug me until I know how to crack it
