Hi quentinv1,

Many GMATers are unhappy with their initial practice scores, but you really shouldn't be. That 300 is just a measure of your skills right now - and you'll improve on that result over time as you learn more about the content, Tactics and little 'secrets' of the Exam. It's also worth noting that if you finished both the Quant and Verbal sections 15 minutes EARLY, then you likely 'rushed' through a bunch of questions (and made little mistakes) that cost you a lot of points. You likely have the ability to score higher right now, but you will have to focus on learning and practicing some specific Quant and Verbal Tactics before you can consistently score 680+. Thankfully, the GMAT is a consistent, predictable Exam, so you CAN train to score at a higher level - and you could potentially improve a great deal over the next 4 months.

Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

1) How long have you studied so far? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) What study materials do you currently have access to?
3) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

Hello EMPOWERgmatRichC,

1 and 2) I have been studying mostly Verbal and a couple of notions for Quant. I would say that I have improved a lot in SC. Overall, it has been a week since I started but I didn't use any materiel yet. However, I just bought TTP and I wanted to start today.

3) I am planning on sending my applications by March. Since I have a lot of extracuricular/ good internship/awards, top 5 schools in Europe told me that 680 could be enough as long as i'm not waiting for the fourth round of application

Hi quentinv1,

Many GMATers spend 3 months (or more) of consistent study time before they hit their 'peak' scores, so if you are training in an efficient fashion, then you could potentially hit your Score Goal in 4 months (or perhaps less). Since the GMAT is so consistent, part of your focus has to be on training to take advantage of how the GMAT is written (and there are a variety of Tactics, patterns and little 'secrets' to the Exam that you can learn)

Given the types of Schools that you are interested in - and your timeframe - you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile and plans. Those Experts should be able to answer your Admissions questions and help define the specific areas of your profile that could use some improvement. There's a Forum full of those Experts here:
