One year of preparation ending with a score of 430 is indeed devastating.

How have you been preparing?

Since everyone is asking about preparation. I did all these below and reviewed them. Followed by going through the 2020 OG guides and GMAT Club's SC 1000 and CR for improvement in terms of timing. RC I was always good at.

Tests were taken under timed conditions. I am restarting my prep this Thursday. As UCLA is my top choice of school for MBA because it has my program, I need at least 650+.
1. Official GMAC CATs
2. Manhattan CATs
3. Kaplan CATs
4. GMAT Club Quant CATs

I know I can crack it. Maybe it was anxiety and pressure.

Hi mvadali23,

Since there was such a big difference between your practice CAT/mocks Scores and your Official GMAT Score, we'll need to define the specific details of your prior studies (so that you don't make any of the same 'mistakes' during this next phase of your studies). While you answered a couple of questions in your posts, I'd like as much information as you can provide on the following two questions:

1) What type of study routine did you follow over the last year? Did you take any 'time off' from your studies during that time? How many hours did you typically study each week?
2) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Hi All,

Today I took my GMAT after almost 1 yearof preparation. Although it was tough I was confidently getting 630s-670s range on my mock tests. t
I am aiming for (650+), however, I was hopeful that at least I will get a 620+ on the D-Day.
I gave several mocks like GMAT Prep scoring 670, 650, 690, and 640. I also gave free tests by Veritas and Kaplan and scored 610 and 670 respectively.

But today something devastating happened. I am not sure what went wrong. I thought I did fine on my exam until I hit the score of 430. May be I took a real competition exam after 5-6 years in my life and anxiety took over me. Or, may be I finished both verbal and quants almost 2-3 minutes early meaning I did not pay adequate time to question stems and screwed myself up. I am devastated at the score and just think that business school is not for me. Everyone I see gets these amazing scores but yet, I didn't. It is hard breaking as weird as it sounds but I set this goal of getting an MBA since I was 7 years old after seeing my parents and family friends who are older doing it. Furthermore, it would be the next step in my career as I need the MBA for a career change.

I am targeting colleges that usually need 650+ scores and the score I cam up with today left me astonished.
Any guidance will be really helpful for me to get to my desired score and motivate me.

Thank you in anticipation.

Hi mvadali23,

Sorry about how things went with your GMAT. Do not get disappointed. You can definitely improve your score provided that you identify what went wrong in the previous attempt and you work on your weak areas. Before that, I want you to go through this article to understand the reasons behind your drop in the score and to understand how to proceed further.

Scored well on mocks but failed miserably on the actual test?

I can definitely help you in the process of improving your score. Having said that, I would like to have a detailed discussion with you regarding the study strategy, your approach of solving questions and your weak areas. This information will help me understand your concerns and guide you in a better way. You can use the below link to get in touch with me.
