I started my GMAT journey with a 590 in the diagnostic and a
Magoosh subscription.
Here are my notes:
PHASE 1: 680/690 IR 4 AWA 6(NOT SUGGESTED)1) I went through all the video lectures in the
Magoosh series but somehow I was not able to solve all the questions in their database.
2) I then came to the conclusion that maybe I'm going to have to learn concepts while I solve these questions and I'm going to have to make mistakes as I do it.
3) I did not practice for IR (It shows in my score of 4)
4) I took the exam and didn't fare well so I decided to reappear in 15 days because I was close to my goal (Just 10-20 points away)
5)I didn't give a practice test at all and just appeared for my first GMAT exam and scored Q45-47 and V38 which in a subsequent attempt dropped to V36
MY MISTAKES1) Do not make the assumption that retesting in 15 days will 100% give you a boost of 10 or 20 points, reaching into 700+ is a huge jump in the percentile and it requires a lot of practice.
2) Since GMAT is computer aided, on the exam day, one question here and there can make you drop 10 or 20 points as well, the vice versa is applicable as well but this means you're leaving everything to chance.
3) Do practice IR, at least get familiar with the type of questions being asked.
4) Even after practicing with a timer, I was running out of time in the actual exam (3-4 questions in verbal and 3 questions in quants).
PHASE 2 - Reaching 730 (SUGGESTED PRACTICES)1) I got
Businessconquerer's help in establishing what I should be doing right, ditched
Magoosh and decided on self prep
2) Went though my ESR and realised I had ignored quants big time
3) For Quants I downloaded a concept book from GMAT - I think it is compiled by 3 people including bb (I don't have the link handy right now) and also a document that I found on GMAT club that had a compilation of 700-800 level questions
4) For verbal I took help from CWBC (Consulting with Business Conquerer) and followed their advice (Improvement from a V36 to V40).
5) I understood the question patterns and common mistakes (including the kind of mistakes I was making).
6) I went through the type of IR questions asked.
7) PRACTICED VERY HARD.
8) CWBC helped me with exam strategies as well.
9) Developed my own timing strategy for both sections.
10) Went through GMATCLUB's Youtube channel for help with Verbal (Amazing stuff).
11) USE THE
ERROR LOG!!!
You may not believe it, but I saw 2 questions on the actual exam that I had practiced on GMAT Club before (I assume it doesn't happed very often) (Sadly I did not remember the answer exactly

)
In all my attempts, I got an AWA 6 - Referred to
chineseburned template (Also on GMAT Club)
Thank you CWBC and Thank you
