Hi MivanOng22,

To start, a 700 is an outstanding overall Score (and raising a 570 to a 700 is a fantastic achievement), so you would likely be fine applying to any Schools that interest you. The Q44 won't "impress" anyone though, so retesting (with the goal of scoring higher in the Quant section) might be a worthwhile idea. Depending on the Schools that you plan to apply to, you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile and plans. Those Experts should be able to answer your Admissions questions and help define the specific areas of your profile that could use some improvement. There's a Forum full of those Experts here:

https://gmatclub.com/forum/ask-admissio ... tants-124/

Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied in total? For this 2nd attempt, how many hours did you typically study each week?
2) What "brands" of CATs/mocks have you used over the course of ALL of your studies? On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
3) What is your overall goal score?
4) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Hi all!

Recently went in for my 2nd GMAT. I was quite pleased with the overall score and the improvement, although it's not one of those super high scores. :D

I got a 700 (Q44, V42, IR 8), and I'm still waiting on the AWA (*hoping for a 6*). I want to thank as well all the users who explain the verbal and quant problems really well as well! Thank you GMATNinja, Bunuel, VeritasKarishma! All of your explanations are really helpful.

While happy with the overall score, I'm a bit concerned about the split between Quant and Verbal. In my mocks, I was averaging around 48 for Quant and mid-30s to Verbal, so, essentially, I overperformed for Verbal but really underperformed in Quant. I was actually even banking more on the Quant section to help me reach the 700 mark. In light of this, I'm wondering if I should retake the GMAT for a third time? I'm just a bit worried that I might not be able to repeat my performance in the Verbal section, but I do think that my Quant score is not indicative of my ability. Any advice would be very helpful.

Test Experience

Quant - I was really nervous while starting out Quant, but I was confident with the first 10 questions in the exam, so I thought I was doing okay, but I hit a snag with one of the middle questions and my timing got messed up. This caused me to rush through the next few questions. Overall, the questions in the actual GMAT seem to tougher than the ones in GMAT Prep, but not as tough as the Manhattan CATs. They were still quite difficult though as I saw some pretty convoluted DS problems. So, I guess it also depends on a bit of luck to be quite honest. I got questions that weren't really my strengths, e.g. distance problems

Verbal - I'm actually pleasantly surprised with my score here. Thought I would stay in the mid-30s, but my results show otherwise. Overall, the difficulty was in line with the items in GMAT Prep. The SC problems were okay - some were quite tricky and most of the time it was difficult to find splits as the choices hid them pretty well so you really need to read all the choices in most SC problems. CR and RC in the actual GMAT had the same difficulty as the OG problems. Also, just wanted to mention that RC for me in this exam was a huge blessing because I liked the passages that I got (and they were fairly interesting as well), so I think that really helped boost my Verbal score.

Also, here are my prep materials:

Verbal (prepped for 3 months):
1. SC - Manhattan Prep Books, Official Guide
2. CR - Manhattan Prep Books, CR Powerscore Bible, Official Guide
3. RC - Manhattan Prep Books and I also practiced with LSAT passages found in GMAT Club, Official Guide

Quant (prepped for 3 months):
1. Manhattan Prep Books and problems in GMAT Club
2. Official Guide

700 is a good score but if you are planning to apply to the top ten, it would be worthwhile to push the Quant up to at least 48. Build up on your weak areas and then try again.
In verbal, 40 and above will be perfectly acceptable so you have some margin there. Keep practicing to maintain the momentum.

You have a good backup score so no need to worry much. If you are able to get a balanced, higher score, great! Else, you can cancel it.
