GMAT 630 - Require Verbal Assistance for next 4-6 weeks

Question

Hi All,
I took my GMAT exam today for the first time and had a score of 630 (Q45 and V29). So far, I did self study and was using Magoosh subscription for studying. I want to re-take my exam, but prior to that I need to work on my Verbal strategy. I have been working on my verbal by myself but seems it wasn't that helpful. My target score is 720-730. Also, I am targeting to apply at R2 for most of my colleges. Can anyone suggest some good sources for personalized courses/ tutor help for Verbal?

Roshni1995 - I am sorry to hear that you did not do well. 630 is a good starting point and the fact that you want to apply in R2 gives you ample time to improve. Here is how you can chart your improvement process:

Create a study plan

A study plan helps focus your energy on the right areas. Given your starting point, one effective way for you to score 720 would be to improve your Quant score to Q49, and your Verbal score to V40. To do that, you need to define, where you need to spend that time? For example, in Quant, should you focus more on Inequalities or Word problems. Similarly, in NP, do you need to study Primes or Divisibility and Remainders.

A good study plan helps answer such questions. Similarly, an adaptive learning platform optimizes your learning.

Study the right methods

The GMAT is a test of logic. Therefore, most high scorers focus on learning methods rather than tricks. Hence, focus on learning methods such as the Meaning Based approach in SC, Prethinking in CR, etc. In fact, attend the our RC session tomorrow by clicking on the link below:

Hi Roshni1995,

You have plenty of time before the Round2 application deadlines for most Schools - so you should not try to 'rush' back in to retest too quickly (especially since you'll have to make significant improvements to how you handle BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections to hit a 720+).

Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

1) How long have you studied? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) Have you used any other study materials besides the course that you listed? What “brands” of CATs/mocks have you used?
3) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
4) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

If you took your GMAT at a Test Center, then you might also choose to purchase the Enhanced Score Report. While the ESR doesn’t provide a lot of information, there are usually a few data points that we can use to define what went wrong on Test Day (and what you should work on to score higher). If you purchase the ESR, then I'll be happy to analyze it for you.
