Hello Everyone,
Today I took my GMAT Test. I was preparing for the test since 3 month now. I only used OG materials to prep for the test and used no other materials. in the first few weeks itself I have the first 2 GMAT tests and did not score a lot (670,690).Leading up to the test I gave 4 other and scored really well (760,710,740,730) so I was fairly confident.
I booked my test for 8 AM as that was the only tie available and I was to go out of town tomorrow. Anyway since I was prepared I did not have any problem. he test center was 5 mins away from my house and I reached 30 mins before the exam. All the formalities took 10-15 mins and I went through the instructions also fairly quickly. Quant is my strength so I opted to start with it. The start was decent but somewhere along the half way line I lost my way and ended up wasting time. In the end I random marked 3-4 questions. I had never random marked quant in any of the prep test. Going into the verbal I was not as confident as I wanted to be. I started off really well and was doing okay till the last quarter where again I ended up wasting time and had to random mark last 2 questions.
The IR and AWA was good apart from one question in IR where the question was something else and the graph was totally different. I had to call the administrator and open a case with GMAC. Wen the score of 680(V35,Q48) came up on the screen I was visibly disappointed and chose not to accept my score. I think I got my decision making all wrong and also cracked under pressure. I am planning to redo my quants ( difficult question from official gmat resource as well as gmat club test for quants). For verbal I am planning to go through all the concepts and work on my weak area. I am yet to get my ESR and do some analysis on it. Let me know if you guys have any other better suggestion.

First off, a 680/Q48 is a strong Score, so it could be enough to get you into your first-choice School. As such, a retest might not be necessary. Depending on the Schools that you plan to apply to, you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile and plans. Those Experts should be able to answer your Admissions questions and help define the specific areas of your profile that could use some improvement. There's a Forum full of those Experts here:

There's no harm in retesting though - and you clearly have an opportunity to pick up some meaningful points in BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections. When these types of score drops occur, the two likely "causes" involve either something that was unrealistic during practice or something that was surprising (or not accounted for) on Test Day. Before we discuss any of those potential issues though, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:
Studies:
1) What type of study routine have you followed over the last 3 months? How many hours did you typically study each week?
2) What specific study materials have you used so far? Did you use any other CATs/mocks besides the 6 Official ones?
3) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
Goals:
4) What is your overall goal score?
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?
Since you took your Official GMAT at a Test Center, you might also choose to purchase the Enhanced Score Report. While the ESR doesn’t provide a lot of information, there are usually a few data points that we can use to define what went wrong on Test Day (and what you should work on to score higher). If you purchase the ESR, then I'll be happy to analyze it for you.

Assuming that you took your official practice exams under realistic testing conditions, the results show that, on a good day, you are capable of scoring higher than V35. Thus, it’s quite possible that nerves, stress, tiredness, or a combination of all three negatively affected your test-day performance. However, it’s also possible that you have some lingering weaknesses that were exposed on test day. Although I’m unsure of how you prepared, it’s possible that, in your preparation, particularly in verbal, you did not really learn to do what you have to do in order to score high on the actual GMAT. Rather, you picked up on some patterns that were effective in getting you relatively high scores on practice tests. So, for you to hit your score goal, your preparation, particularly for verbal, probably needs to be more complete, meaning that you have to go through the various types of GMAT questions carefully to find your exact weaknesses, fill gaps in your knowledge, and strengthen your skills.
For verbal specifically, you have to become more skilled at clearly defining the differences between trap choices and correct answers. Otherwise, you will get stuck guessing between two choices or be surprised to find that you incorrectly answered questions that you thought you answered correctly. Becoming more skilled in this way takes carefully analyzing all of the answer choices to lots of verbal questions to develop an eye for the logical differences between the choices. In other words, you have to go beyond answering practice questions and reading explanations to doing deep analysis of questions to learn to see everything that is going on in them.
