To all who experienced frustrating proctor behavior during the online GMAT and experience unusual drop in score, stand up for yourself and request a retake and cancel original score.
I studied for GMAT for 3 months because I am a perfectionist and waiting to take it till I could consistently reach 99%.
I scheduled for Aug.5th online GMAT at home and everything was going smoothly. I was smooth sailing the quant and ready to take on the Verbal. I thought I was one step closer to GSB and HBS.
However, just when I was in the middle of the Verbal section, focusing on the reading comprehension question, suddenly there was a phone ringing from the proctor's side. And she answered the phone while I was trying to focus on the exam questions.
I have a lot of respect for GMAC and GMAC's reputation as the top of the standard.
I wrote to GMAC find out whether I could retake the exam and cancel the score.
The following is my original email:
This morning I had an exam interrupted by the phone ringing tones and the subsequent phone conversation of the proctor. When I was in the middle of the Verbal section, focusing on the reading comprehension question. Suddenly there was a phone ringing from the proctor's side. And she answered the phone while I was trying to focus on the exam questions. It was a very unexpected interruption to my test performance. It goes against common sense when I followed every instruction from the GMAC while experiencing this unprofessional interruption.

21 days later, I received the official approval for a voucher to retake the exam and cancel my original score as a technical error.
I appreciate all the people working at GMAC for helping me in this journey.
The following is the original email I received:
Hello Meixue,
First, we want to apologize for any inconvenience you may have faced during your GMAT Online exam.
Our team would like to address the issues you experienced by offering a customer service voucher code that can be used to schedule your next exam at no additional charge to you. Your voucher code details can be found below – your exam must be completed on or before the expiration date. This voucher code is not transferrable and is only valid for the GMAT Online exam.

That's good to be aware of. Proctors can do silly things.
As a matter of fact, when I was taking the GMAT in a test center, the proctors got so loud that they could be heard in the testing room. I turned around a couple times to ask them to take it down a notch, a sight that must have looked pretty funny when GMAC reviewed the video to see whether I cheated my way to 800. : )
Way to stand up for yourself, and may your next test go better!
