im a native speaker, and i found the essays fairly easy.
granted i have not recieved my AWA scores yet, but i didnt find them difficult.

i believe my problem lies on not properly and quickly diserting concepts, assumptions, and pressumptions from what i am reading (CR, RC)

sentence correction is also a problem for me. i believe i keep falling for the traps. find one solution, but not understanding that another has been introduced. might be a lack of practice or just plain ol'rushing..

i just dont know how to go about getting better at these.

i have realized, mabye a bit too late, that more practice means nothing unless you practice effectively.

i was more focused on just practicing and getting more of a variety of original questions rather than fully understanding the questions i had.

i agree with kidderek, i have to start reading journals for the comprehension of the text.

any other ways i can tackle my problem? im pretty open at this point to try anything. granted im exhausted from practicing, but i will NOT give up and definitely take it again within a 2 month time frame.

thanks again everyone who has been reading..

Get the MGMAT sentence correction. Read it thru once and take notes. Then read it through once a week, very quickly (about a half hour skim). You'll pick up on new things each time. Remember!! SC accounts for most of the verbal section AND you can conceivably answer SC questions in a minute. RC and CR will always take some time.

When I started out about 3 months ago, my verbal ranged from 31 to 36. I haven't tested since, but my practice scores are going higher and higher. I really haven't learned any new concepts since, with the exception of SC, b/c SC is actually learnable. But in the course of those 3 months, I have been reading Time magazine on a weekly basis. I don't always understand what's written, but I plow through and read it anyway. Two things will happen. 1. Your reading speed will increase. 2. Your SC will improve, b/c they write just as the GMAT creators want you to write.

I truly believe reading Time magazine (I remember way back reading someone's post about subscribing to The Economist, they all work well, as long as it is a scholarly journal) has increased all three parts of my verbal abilities. Try your best at those Op/Ed pieces.
