Hello,
This is the second test I took. The first time I took it, I got Q50, V28, total 650 (although I got Q45, V41 from GMATPrep). Then, I posted my result on this website. Many nice members here suggested me to do
error log and study from
MGMAT for SC. I bought OG11, OG verbal workbook, and
MGMAT and studied until I felt really confident. The week before my second test, I took GMATPrep again and scored 740 (Q47, V45) + 770 (Q50, V46). Hence, I felt even more confident that this time my verbal score will improve because although I could remember some questions on the GMATPrep test from the first time I took both practice tests, I could not remember the answers. So, my score on the actual test should be more than 700. On the test day, I got enough sleep and thought that today would be the last day that I had to touch GMAT books... How wrong was I...
Essay section is not difficult. On the first test, I practiced writing essay the day before exam and got 5. However, I think it's important to create the form and memorize it before taking the test. If you could not really come up with example from a good source...well, I guess it is not that bad to BS a bit.
For quantitative part, it was a lot harder than the first time I took because on the first test I felt that questions were easier than GMATPrep, but this time they were harder. However, I felt ok since I already estimated that the worst I do should be 45. Then, I took a break...
Here comes the most challenge part of the test ...verbal. I noticed that I NEVER got Assumption questions on CR. The strange thing is I got "which of the following best complete the passage?" questions many many times. I got 1 strengthen question and 1 weaken question.

There was nothing weird about RC questions, but the last passage's topic is about astronomy, which is my weakest area. I couldn't really do the passage about space, meteorite... Moreover, I'm not sure if it is simply my feeling but the SC questions I got, I felt like I could not really recognize the pattern... When I studied
MGMAT SC book and did questions on OG11 and OG verbal, I got a few questions wrong on SC section and was able to recognize wrong spot pretty quickly. However, I was not so sharp on SC questions on the real test. I noticed that this verbal section is very similar to the first one that I took (the first passage topic and its length are identical to those on the first test + SC questions that I could not recognize pattern).
After I finished the test, I just preyed "anything begins with number 7 is fine" Then, I saw Q 48, V 32 total 650. I was simply shocked... "How could this happen? I got the same score. I wasted so much time studied and still got the same score". The first time I took the test, I didn't study much for verbal. BUT I REALLY STUDIED SO MUCH THIS TIME... ahhhh.

I almost cried, but I didn't. After I went home, I thought about the test and my life because I was not sure whether I still want to apply for Ph.D program. About my background... I'm a foreign student. My parents sent me to study here since high school. I entered BA/MA program and finished it within 4 years because I wanted to graduate the same time as my friends who did only BA (but because I was just an average student in my program, you'd bet that I almost not survive and my college life was miserable + no more clubs and play around since my junior year, the time that I began to do BA/MA). My major for BA is Econ and Maths, Econ for MA. I graduated this year in May 06, and I planned to do Ph.D in Organizational Behavior because I'm so done with Econ. Warning!!! If you don't love maths, you may reconsider major in Econ for graduate level because you need to learn regression, linear algebra, statistics and use software like Stata. Although my GPA is quite high (I graduated Summa cum Laude for BA, but if admissions calculate GPA from only grad courses, I got only 3.5) , I'm certain that there are many students who have even higher GPA than I do. Besides, grades from graduate level are usually inflated since anything below B- = F. So, GMAT is still a crucial factor. Finally, I decided to give a chance for one last time.
I really want your suggestion about what I should study this time.
Moreover, what kind of question "which of the following best complete the passage?" Is that inference question?
I would appreciate any advice.... please help one desperate person here... thanx!!!
P.S I don't think I will want to rely on GMATPrep again... Somehow, it is not a good indicator for me...
