Hi All,
I took my first attempt at the GMAT this week and scored a 660. I am extremely disappointed but I will save you the sob story. I am motivated to not give up until I get a 710-730.
I'm here because I, as many others have been at this point, am at a loss for where to go next. I know I can continue to improve but I'm not sure what the most efficient method to improve is. I don't know if just continuing to do practice questions and reading explanations is the best way to improve. I have never had a tutor but I am considering a tutor. Here are a few things about me and my study path thus far. Please feel free to weigh in if you think I would benefit from a tutor or if I can save myself the money by using another method:
Background:
CFA Charterholder and work in investment management. Military veteran
Studies:
1) How long have you studied? About 3 months
2) How many hours did you typically study each week?
About 10-12 hours per week for the first 2 months. And then 35 hours per week for the last 2 weeks. All in, I had 140 hours of studying. And that is a real 140 hours that I tracked in Excel by logging in and out each time I walked away from my computer. I was not playing on my cell phone half the time.
2) What study materials have you used so far?
-Kaplan Premier book and online course.
-GMAT CAT mock exam 1 and 2.
-Purchased 2 of the 3 additional "GMAT official practice questions". And about 100 questions from the GMAT OG.
-In the last 3 weeks, I used official GMAT questions only and checked the explanation for every single incorrect answer, and most correct answers, here on GMATClub.
3) On what dates did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
3 weeks out from exam - 710 Q44 V44 IR7, 10 days out from exam 710 Q47 V41 IR5 (these were the two free practice exams that come with registering for the GMAT exam on gmatofficialpractice)
Goals:
4) What is your overall goal score? 710-730
5) When are you planning to take the GMAT? I will take the exam whenever I am ready to score a 710+, whether that is in 2 weeks or 2 months.
6) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to? Fall 2022, top 10s / M7s
Exam History
660. I really don't know what happened in verbal particularly. I thought it was smooth sailing and I finished with two minutes to spare.
Thank you all for everything you do here on GMATClub.
