Hello experts and fellow members,
I took my GMAT today (10th Jan'22) and scored a 660 (Q48, V32). I understand that this is not a terrible score, however, I also realize that this falls on the shorter end for the schools that I'm targeting (T15 US), especially considering my background (Indian, M, consulting). I was expecting a few more points on both quant and verbal sections. Following are my mock results:
1)
GMAT Club test (Q only): Q49 11 Dec'21
2) GMAT Prep 1 (Full test; took 8-minute breaks): 740- Q49V41 30 Dec'21
3)
GMAT Club test (Q only): Q44 3 Jan'22
4)
GMAT Club test (Q only): Q49 3 Jan'22 (Took this test immediately- after about a break of ~15 min- after Q44 attempt as I knew Q44 is not my ability and did not want to spark doubt in my head before my actual exam)
I like to believe that I have a strong analytical ability (good at math, arithmetic; engineering graduate; consulting experience), and thus was a little shocked to see this result.
Test day experienceI had my test scheduled for 9:30 AM. I slept for a good 7 hours, woke up fresh, and was really pumped to write (or click(?)) the exam. I checked in to my center a little before time and navigated the place in advance to avoid spending time during my 8-minute break(s). I was barely anxious and I do not think being nervous was a reason for such a performance. I picked up the order- Q-V-IR-AWA as planned. The exam experience was smooth, and the test center staff was cooperative. I finished the quant section with 3 minutes to spare. I was late for my verbal section by <2 minutes and couldn't mark (time ended) the last question. To stick to my timing, I did make scattered, "educated" guesses on 2-3 questions, preferably right after RCs.
PreparationQuantIn the beginning of 2021, before the second wave of COVID hit India, I studied using Manhattan guides- really good content. This time (around Oct'21), I studied using the GMATClub math book, another resource I found very useful, supplemented by my Manhattan guide notes from earlier. For practice, I used OG21, GC question banks, and GC quizzes. I was performing well in quant questions, with an accuracy of nearly 80-90% most of the time.
VerbalI subscribed to eGMAT in the beginning of 2021, and this time (Dec'21) referred to my notes from before. I practiced using OG21 and referred to GMATNinja 's YT verbal series (getting almost all the questions correct; skipped the GMAT Prep questions). I had a strong hold over RC/CR and missed a few SC questions occasionally. For verbal too, my accuracy was 80(+)% (RC>CR>SC). For my GMATPrep mock 1, I could not attempt the last RC passage (4 questions- 1 correct, 3 incorrect). This is because I could not check the question# as the new GMAT prep UI has it messed up (eg. you could be on your question #15 and the question # might be listed as 4). So, because I did not know which question# I am on, and considering that time was running out, I decided to skip the RC to get some time for the last few questions, however, RC represented the last set of questions. Despite missing 1 RC passage (3 questions), I scored a V41.
Next stepsI'm planning to do the following:
1) Not study for this week (weekdays); try to relax; focus on other non-GMAT, non-MBA stuff
2) Take GMAT Prep 2 on the coming weekend
3) If I do not score well (730+), take some time off and get back at GMAT prep after a few weeks
4) If I do score well, practice questions during the next week (weekdays) and take GMAT Prep 3 the weekend after
5) If I score well on both GMAT Prep 2 and 3, I'll resit for the actual GMAT
Could you please help me evaluate this plan as I think I could have just had a "bad day" today, but at the same time, I want to make sure that it actually was just a "bad day" as I do not want to spend money because I'm being over-confident and just looking for a reason to blame my poor performance on. I could be completely wrong, as I still have mental fatigue, from both the exam itself and the stress after seeing my score. I think I could benefit from an outside opinion and thus would highly appreciate any and all help provided. Additionally, do you think that an ESR will be helpful?
This community has been really helpful so far and even though I have a not-so-good score, I couldn't thank the entire GC community enough.
Thanks!
~~~Update~~~I ordered my ESR and following is the split for Q and V:
VerbalCR: 65th percentile (Analysis/critique-100%; Construction/plan- 25%)
RC: 91st percentile (Identify inferred idea- 100%; Identify stated idea- 75%)
SC: 44th percentile (Grammar- 55%; Communication- 0%)
QuantPS: 55th percentile
DS: 96th percentile
