Dear ladies and gentlemen of GmatClub forum,
i am writing you to seek for help to improve by verbal reasoning as i am stuck at V27-29 level as per my recent mock tests. My goal is to reach 700+, so i aim to V39-40.
I started preparation back in 2020, using MGMAT for Quant and SC, and e-Gmat for full Verbal. In March 2021 I wrote my 1st mock test (Official Prep) and scored 640 (V37 and Q42). Seeing that my quant score is low, I had enrolled to TTP course and wrote 2nd mock test in August 2021. I scored 620 (V29 and Q47) in this test. Not sure why my verbal score was worsened, but I wrote 3rd mock test same month to see whether my verbal score was really at level of 29 that time, and in this test I got 640 (V28 and Q48). I was frustrated with verbal and decided to read CR Bible to improve score on CR, but my subsequent scores in further mocks on verbal were even worse - V25 & V27.
Could you please advise how can I wisely approach to VR's preparation ? It seems like my approach is completely wrong even though I don't have issues with grammar rules.

Hi Vesper,
Many GMATers find the Verbal section to be challenging - so you are not alone. The Verbal section is as consistent and predictable as the Quant section is, but Verbal questions have no 'safety net' - meaning that if you make a little mistake or miss a vital piece of information, then you will convince yourself that one of the wrong answers is correct (and not realize it). With Verbal Scaled Scores in the V20s, you're losing significant points in all 3 major Verbal categories (RC, SC and CR) - meaning that you will almost certainly have to improve in all of those areas to hit your Goal Score.
Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:
1) Over the last 3 months, how many hours did you typically study each week?
2) During that time, on what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
3) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

- Typically, 1-1.5 hours a day in weekdays, and 3-4 hours on weekends.

1st CAT in March 2021, scored 640 (Q42 & V37)
2nd CAT in August 2021, scored 620 (Q47 & V29)

- I am planning to apply to R1. Regarding school selection - it depends on my GMAT score. Ideally I would like to apply to Top 10 business schools. However, in case I fail to break 700+ score, then I will need to consider Top 20. That is my train of thoughts.
