Hello,
This is my third try for GMAT. The first two times I received 650 (Q 50, V28, 5.0 essay score and Q 48, V 32, 6.0 essay score) although my scores on practiced test for verbal are 90%-95%. I posted my GMAT experience twice. From the last time, at first I felt strongly that I got weird questions on the verbal part and that was why I did not do well on verbal. However, a few days after the second test date, I had a chance to do CR in CR1000 and was surprised that I did not do well on CR.
So, I think that it could be CR and nerve that lowered my score. I did not study intensely as last time because I already finished doing OG 11, OG verbal and
MGMAT SC. So, I simply did CR1000 from the first test to test 3. Moreover, since
MGMAT just launched the new adaptive test this month, I did the new 6 tests online. These are my practice scores:
MGMAT test 1: Q 44 V 39 Total 690
test 2: Q 40 V 40 Total 660
test 3: Q 42 V 51 (probably had repeted passages from the old, non adaptive tests) Total 730
test 4: Q 48 V 40 Total 720
test 5: Q 44 V 40 Total 700
test 6: I did only verbal because I did not want to get tired on the day before the real test V 51
I noticed that when I had 1-2 repeted RC, I got 51. I seriously think that for a person who gets nervous easily, repeating passages can drastically distort the score because the increase in time (from knowing some answers in advance) makes you feel less nervous than usual.
The last week before the test, I tried to relax and took the practice tests. Yesterday, I watched TV for most of the time. This time, I also did not expect or think of scores.
Today, the test date for real GMAT, is actually not the best day for me. I did not get enough sleep since management people at my apartment tested the alarm system which woke me up early then usual. So, I got a headache. Warning!!! complaints ahead, you can skip it and read the next paragraph. Then, when I went to the test center at 1:45, I was told that since my appointment is 2:30 and there was no seat available, I had to wait. However, it is the Pearson rule or something, the person there told me I could not wait there. Moreover, I was not allowed to wear my jacket in the test room ( however, the first 2 times I took the test, I was allowed to wear jacket). Finally, when I asked for one additional marker, the lady said she could not give me because of some rule ( but during the break, I asked the new procter for one more marker and he gave me). Ok, I'm done complaining and sorry to bore you guys with this part.
The 2 essay sections are ok.
Then, for quant part, I think this time I got questions that are of similar level to the GMATPrep, but much easier than the
MGMAT horrible questions. I ran out of time for the last 5 questions. However, it is quite a usual process to me, so I was not scared.
Then I took the break and drank Red Bull (1/2 during the first break and the rest for second break) + banana. When the test began, I was nervous but tried to calm myself. Because I got a headache +nervous and English is my second language, I probably used so much energy that one time I looked at the screen and I saw the CR passage moving. So, I closed my eyes for awhile, and it helped me to focus again.
I noticed that the last 2 RC passages are short and quite straightforward, unlike those in the first 2 times that I took GMAT. Although I got quite low scores on verbal in the first 2 times, passages were long and quite difficult. So, I guess that it is possible that computer tried to see if it could give me more points, so it threw me difficult passages (just a guess... who knows how it really works...)
After I finished the test, I waited for the computer to calculate score and thought that I still could get 650 (so I wouldn't be too disappointed like last time). However, I saw Q 49 V 40 Total 730!!! After I left the test center, I went to bathroom to kiss the unofficial score report. Finally, all the effort paid off!!!
I'd like to thank you GMAT Club for great materials such as the 1000's set and great verbal and quant forums, and I want to thanks everyone who posted the comments from my last posts when I was discouraged by the scores. Again, thank you very much!!!

Now, I can begin to do applications.
