I took the GMAT last week and scored a 650 (48 Math, 32 Verbal). I am keen to score atleast 700 because my application needs to be strengthened (only a 3.2 GPA).
The problem I had with both math and verbal was failing to finish either section. In math I left out 3 questions and in verbal I left out 7 questions! Just to think if I had finished the exam, I could have got a much higher score.
My question - Are there any tips anyone could give me on finishing sections on time? I tend to struggle to keep a good pace (like 20 minutes to go and only 20 questions completed on verbal OR too long per CR and RC question). OG says that your score goes down dramatically if you can't complete sections. Any tips to improve my speed?
Time everything. Have an internal clock built in. Do a ten question exercise and time it. Do 1 question and time it. With the exception of the very few elite test takers, everyone guesses on at least one question, so don't be too discouraged. If you have 30 seconds left, use it wisely. Read the information and ascertain as much as you can, eliminate whatever you can and guess.
The two minute per question is a general parameter. If you finish a question in one minute, you've just rewarded yourself with the leeway to spend three minutes on a question and so forth. Move briskly, never let your mind be idle. Skipping 10 questions is disastrous!!!
