Dear Friends,
I appeared for GMAT yesterday and ended up with 690( Q 49, V 35). This is such a score which I am not able to either rejoice or regret. This was my second attempt and in first attempt I scored 640( with hardly any serious prepration). But this time I really worked hard for almost last 2.5 months( 2-3 hours each day). My Q score is same on both these attempts which I exptected it to be since for this attempt I only focussed on verbal.
I was expecting my score some where in 720-740 range based on my practice and before break between Q and V section, I believed it is going to happen. But then, destiny ruled. First break between AWA and Q was for 10 minute and I was back to my seat on time. I thought same for second break as well but unfortunately It turned out be only 5 minutes ( I don't know weather it was actually 10 min or I was late by 5 min..I just had a apple and a coeffee during this break..My mistake)and I was exactly 5 minutes late for V section. I thought I will end my exam just now but then composed myself to fight back but in this process I lost invaluable 15 min. I couldn't concentrate at all during full V section.
Reason I am writing this post is that you shouldn't suffer from this. While it is important to take break, more important than that is to be at your seat on time and clearly know what is the time break limit.
I don't how to console myself. I have decided to take it again so you will see me on this forum.
Irrespective of this bad luck, this club has helped to me raise my score by 50 and that too all in V. I started thinking about writing GMAT during last week of August and since my V was poor, I decided to read Economist. For the 6 weeks I just focussed on reading this magazine completely. And then I took GMATPrep. On both these test I scored 660 and that was the time I found this forum. I posted my situation here and I got a reponse suggesting to focus on GMAT style rather than reading 'Economist'. Since then I become addictive to this site and started doing OG, 1000 series. And it really help which is evident from improvement in V score.
Regarding my preparation on V( as I have said I have't done much practice on Q section as I was confident that I will get 48-50 on this section):
1) OG 11 and Official guide for Verbal ( Completed twice)
2) SC 1000 ( All question. did once)
3) CR 1000 ( only first 400...did once...LSAT question not attempted)
4) RC 1000 ( Total 10 sections of LSAT. Only difference is that I took 50-55 min to solve one section where as they recommend it to do in 35 min. It was nearly impossible for me read those 4 passages in 35 min and then annwer 27 questions)
5)
MGMAT GMAT SC book
6) GMAT Prep ( took it total 8 times...score ranged from 660 to 770)
During real test I saw around 4-5 guestion in V section which were either from OG or from GMATPrep. Though questions asked were manipulated.
My suggestion is to go through OG guides and GMATPrep as many times as possible. Even if you see the repeats in GMATPrep, do it, just don't click the correct answer. Real GMAT is so much similar to these test that if you have done these tests on GMAT Prep, you feel very comfortable during real exam.
You will see me around after some time. I am taking a much needed break of three weeks now! Good luck to you all for your exam and manage your break time well. Don't be late:)
